Ok, so, I got my Asus. Yay! It seems to be much faster than my old Dell. Now I just need to figure out how I can get Microsoft Word from the Dell to the Asus.

You can't just copy it. You need to install the software again. Did your Dell come with Office pre-installed? Did you receive the installation disk?

Pre installed, so no disk. I'm going to have to guy a new copy, but since I'm a student, there are other, cheaper options for me. It's still more than I want to spend, though.

Ah, yeah... Office is dirt cheap for students. I bought mine thru a website called (from memory) softwareforstudents.

Of course, you could always download it if you find a good torrent.

Seriously, after all the labs I did in University for physics, I've come to the conclusion that anyone obsessed over needing MS Office is a dumbshit.

Though, at one point, I wrote a linear regression test because I didn't want to try someone's OO macro. But I'm weird that way.

The functionality you are most likely to use is built in to both products. And any time you're giving out a document, USE PDF!.

Get Libre Office. It's free and you can open/save in Microsoft Word format.

Unfortunately PDF's aren't always an option. Many documents are collaborative efforts. That makes PDF’s unusable unless everyone has got Adobe Acrobat, and I don’t know anyone that’s not in the publishing business that uses that. Plus I've seen problems with formatting and tracking changes between Office and OpenOffice. I haven’t tried any of the other office suites though.

I have never gone through the trouble of installing Microsoft Office on my computer, but then again all the university computers have it, so if I truly need it, I do my work on those.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
