See, to me that sort of thing would say that those people perceive something wrong with me, something broken that needs fixing; and what a surprise, they have the very thing to cure it.
It's be different if I actually needed help, whether I actively sought it myself or was offered it. The people you describe probably think on some level they're doing this, but they haven't even shown that there even is a problem in the first place. Get that settled first, then we might have something to talk about.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Well in this case, they are indoctrinated and in are a double think. Christians and Muslims in general appreciate other humans for what they are, but at the same time, feel the other humans are condemned. They praise for being good, but at the same time, condemn them for being unjust. One of the reasons is that something in them judges other humans by an objective standard of good, that is unrelated to indoctrination. Their respect comes from that. Their disrespect comes from indoctrination.
Sometimes the indoctrinated totally forgets about his religious teachings, and perceives other humans as if they don't exist. In fact, I would say most Christians and Muslims are of this type.
However the ones that go on forums, have to hear, from the indoctrinated disrespectful ones, constantly judging and perceiving through indoctrination lenses. They then begin to see through that.
Majority of Muslims don't read Quran over and over again, to be reminded of the unjust state of disbelievers. They forget about it.
Case in point, my dad was telling me the other day, that he believes God won't judge people upon what they believe. Simply upon their good actions. It doesn't matter what religion you are or if you have no religion, the only thing that is required is your good actions.
I didn't want to break to him that Quran shows that God does judged based on beliefs, so I just let him be. It also feels better, because this way he still respects/honors me.
Most Christians also don't judge humans to be "evil" "sinful" and believe you can be a good person. I hear from them all the time talking about how to be a "good" person.
They don't buy into this you need to be cured from sinful nature. They also see good in other humans.
Reality is the more religious are the ones preaching on forums and have the loudest mouth. It doesn't represent society.
So I would say they do see something wrong from us from their indoctrination glasses, but at the same time, respect us from their human lenses. And most people have their human lenses on most of the time. And very few take on the indoctrinations glasses constantly.

Agreed Mystic...the measure of how tolerable any given religious shitwit may be is one of how little they exercise their religious shitwittery. Thankfully, most people can't help but be at least passably decent, in spite of their religious leanings.

I see disrespect in their failure to understand that their religious views are just beliefs, and everyone is entitled to their own. To proselytize sends the message that they have superior beliefs, and everyone else should give theirs a shot, even if you already have.
It's a bit like sprinkling pamphlets that say, "Your music is shit; stop listening to it. You should listen to jazz! It will make you happy, and you will enjoy it!" Well, I've heard jazz and have come to the conclusion that I don't like it, so please, stop telling me I should get some jazz in my life.

To them, though, FNM, it's like putting out flyers to a rock show. You're going to love it! You'll buy all the albums!

I know, but they need to realize that just about everyone's heard pieces of that rock show and are tired of being invited to it. They need to respect people's right to reject it and stop persistently shoving it down people's throat regardless of how much they love it.

If you were tired of me posting AC/DC in the music thread, you just had to say so.
Nah, I'm with you. They often seem like teenagers about it to me. "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD THIS?!"

Well, see, unlike them, I respect your right to listen to and profess your love for what I would consider to be terrible music.
When you start telling me I have to listen to AC/DC to find fulfillment in my life, we'll have problems.

I'm pretty sure me dressed as a school girl and carrying a guitar would make a far better evangelical mechanism than a preacher and his book though.

Heh, I resisted a lot of pretty girls back in high school for the sake of religion. Now I so wish I got into a relationship back then and found out religion was not true then.
