No, I'm not a hipster, nor someone who forces my beliefs onto others - I didn't get irritated except by the line about not disproving things. I just found it ludicrous, and as you posted it in public I felt your opinion was up for debate. Which is all I'm doing. If you wanted to vent without having it hashed out, you should have bought a diary.


I just wanted to know what you were talking about, because what you showed me didn't have any resemblance to what you first described, nor did I find any reason to call atheists, who are a hodgepodge of people, 'hipsters'.


I asked for an example - I got a facebook page. What do you know about what we deal with here in the Southern states of America? Try it for an extended period of time - maybe you'll understand why people get militant.

Yes, that is also what I mean. People in the Netherlands and Uk or any part of Europe have nothing to complain about. You probably do. But I don't care anymore.

That facebook page is just 1 of many. I don't think silly pictures and stuff like that portray the Atheists verry well. I think it's childish. It's nothing like forums like these. Like I said (not verry well) but here, on this forum, people are actually getting somewhere with good discussions.

I have 1 uncle and ant in Austraila and i've been a couple of times, but that doesn't mean I know what Australia or it's people are like.

Facebook by its very nature can't be like a forum like this.

Here's a comparison:

There's a guy who actually took the time to create a hate page towards the "I fucking love science" page on Facebook because it did the same thing: posted pictures that related to science through quotes or something of that nature, but had little to do with real science. I happen to like that page - not because I expect science content, but because I find the science related quotes and jokes to be cute.

We can argue all day long whether or not something portrays atheism in the right light, but since it's like herding cats to get us to agree on something, you might as well give up. At least on the Facebook end of things. It's not there to be constructive, it's there to give the "in group" something to laugh at and chat over.

By the way - I don't know how many times forums like these have altered the world either, so who's to say which is more noble? At least FB can claim to have helped in things like the Arab Spring.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. It's not just about FB, it's about the lot. Why give up? What is there to give up about this oppinion? Look, I just think there's another way of being an Atheist. But ill keep it to myself shall I.

You don't "be" an atheist. You merely don't hold the on position on the god topic.

When you talk about "ways" of "being" anything you set up litmus tests to measure others by. That really inot a label issue when humans do that, that is an evolutionary failur to see an individual as such.

There is no right way to be an atheist, because the word does not denot being human, it denotes a position and humans hold mulitiple positions on a variety of topics. Having a common position does not mean we have everything in common because of one position.

Perhaps not so much as the Netherlands but here in the West it is VERY flat!!

It is beautiful in as much as it will kill you as soon as look at you. Just something we grow up with and after 5 decades I'm over it. Stunning scenery for all that.

And I have no idea what it is like to live in the Netherlands. Would love to visit one day though.

West as in WA west Kichi? Or as in Hay NSW type west? Pretty flat out there, too. From memory the land out there raises something like a metre every 10km or so...
