Someone tells me I can't grow something here because of geography, I say "Fuck you. Watch me." Of course, NC isn't WA, but it still stands. Mary J has some of the best indoor growing systems you've ever seen - forget about outdoor necessities. (That's exactly what I said about hops too. Speaking of services to or by greenies, frost resistant cultivars already exist. A hoophouse with no additional heating is more than sufficient to keep the temperature well within the ideal range. Anywhere you can grow summer squash you can grow weed. But you'd probably be better off growing it amongst the okra.....
(and why wouldn't they, the family that this particular herb belongs to also contains hops...and some trees, so there was plenty of material available to tinker with.)

Even if frost was a problem...again, we have indoor services for pot that are incredible.

Maybe break it up into two distinct sections? Staple crops and "everything else"? I bet cannabis would be a good cover crop btw..lol. Dense (mostly useless except to turn under) vegetative growth -to capture nutrients and prevent erosion-, a profitable commodity as an ancillary product, unrelated to most commercially grown crops, low maintenance........
(i wonder if defoliants would allow for easier mechanical harvest ala cotton without rendering the commodity worthless?)
