So, how are your conservative friends taking it?

You might be right on that one. They did it with Bill Clinton and they hate Obama even more. So far, they haven't dug up any dirt that's really stuck; the best they have are vague questions about his birth certificate.

Makes me wonder, though, if they continue to be this adamant with their "Grrrrr I hate Obama and won't let him do anything" what will happen with midterms? When a party is seen as overly partisan to the point that it interferes with their ability to govern, they tend to get hurt in the polls. Remember the `98 midterms? The GOP made their entire campaign about Bills bad behavior and they got their ass kicked. Might be the same thing in 2 years.

Also, it bears repeating: until they can eliminate the tie between the Republican party and subtle (or sometimes not-so-subtle) racism, they will lose out on the latino vote and they will lose becase of it. Hispanic voters are the fastest growing segment of the population and alienating them is a terrible idea. Also, if I wanted my political party to be more popular, I'd try to avoid having my party so closely associated with 'rape.' So far, those ideas just started to latch on a little right after the election, but I can't help but think, somewhere in September or October of 2014, they'll forget all about it and we'll here some Republican telling us that it's ok to rape illegal immigrants and then Fox News will jump in to back him up.

Yes, because, you know, the rabid religious right is totally going to sell their bullshit to America and really convince us they're the ones who totally have it right by...continuing their campaign of bigotry, ignorance, and hatred, by continuing their political contrarianism and holding the country at fiscal and economic gunpoint in their mad, slavish drive to slap anti-abortion clauses to fucking every single bill that enters the Congress/Senate chambers, and by continuing to ignore the fact that America is changing while they're stagnating.

Uhm. Yeah. WHICH part of that is going to sell to the American people, again?? Because, if I'm not mistaken, the incumbent president was presiding over a nation with a 7.2% unemployment rate and a sluggish economy after signing and defending NDAA2012 and only doing maybe half the things he promised he would...oh, and also after being outspent on the campaign trail by like $700,000,000 by his opponent...and yet he was elected by almost 100 more electoral votes and over two million more popular votes than the challenger largely because the challenger was the very idol of everything I just listed as being the goals and ideals of the Republican party.

But do go on and tell us how doing nothing different and refusing to acknowledge that the country around them is changing is going to get the Republicans to win big in 2014, I do enjoy listening to comedy shows. Big Grin

Why don't you secede, dickhead. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Oh. And take fucking jesus with you.

Oh especially then, because "they put their money into it and they DESERVE IT."

Except I did some calculations and the total taxes an individual pays yearly that go into welfare if everyone paid equal taxes and all tax money was divided equally would be around $40 a year at most. Given that in a single month you generally get like $1000 a month on welfare or something like that [depending on the reason] that would mean you would have to work for 25 years for your allocated tax money to pay for one single month of your disability...so that's a load of bullshit from them.

People love to bitch about things that have no bearing on them, and they get all the more vocal and annoying when they know nothing of what they're babbling about but have loads of "righteous" moral outrage over it all the same.

Facebook provides me with so much schadenfreude these days, being the only solid liberal in a family of Fox News conservatives.

So do you, so thanks.

Perhaps you missed it, but last week, America decisively told conservatives that we're done with you and your horse shit. I hope the pundits crying about how Romney wasn't conservative enough continue to influence the direction of the party, because within ten years the GOP will be so marginalized that they will never significantly influence national politics again. The Tea Party wing of the GOP could only get more conservative by wearing white sheets and burning crosses. The only way to prevent that would be for the GOP to skew heavily to the left of where they are now. And there are plenty of conservative pundits suggesting that they do so on immigration and social/moral policies.

Historically, though, the party in power always loses seats in the mid-terms.

The problem is that the republicunts will learn the wrong message from this, as they did in 2010. In 2 years there will be more minority voters and fewer angry old white jesus freaks. In 4 years those numbers will have doubled.

The GOPricks may gain seats in a mid-term because people do not vote in the same numbers as they do in a presidential election but that will merely encourage them to name another fascist cocksucker for president in 2016... and they will get their asses kicked again.

Man kills himself over Obama winning the election. He blames Obama no his business going under. Maybe he should look at the nature of his business: he owned a tanning salon in one of the sunniest places in the nation.

Not sure what to think about this; kinda good, kinda bad.

I have a great deal of sympathy even if I think he was tragically misguided and not in his right mind. My business has been suffering over the course of the last decade and the constant struggle to keep things afloat had taken their toll. That, with my wife's medical bills and my inability to sell my old home have put me in a bind financially. But for my wife's emotional support I might not be here now. If he was brainwashed by a constant stream of right wing hate only adds to the tragedy.

Yeah, I fully expect it to happen in 2014. In '18, also, if the Dems keep the White House. Long-term, though, the picture looks very rosy for progressives. The Fox News, Tea Party, "I'm not a racist but they call it the White House for a reason" GOP is doomed. If they survive, it will be because they have shifted away from what they are today.

And, I think they probably will to some degree. Even the hardest core conservative today is fairly liberal (even if not by choice) compared to a conservative Southern Democrat of the 50s.

Yeah, I know. The truth is, it's almost impossible for a small business to succeed anymore but big corporations are labeled 'too big to fail.' So, yeah, he has some legitimate complaints towards the government and, yeah, Obama deserves some of that blame, but if you think for a second that Romney is going to help you at all, you are delusional.
