Athiesm is a Faith?
#11
RE: Athiesm is a Faith?
I seen savedbychrists post and tbh it wasn't pretty lol; but its a serious question i place. And so far no one has really answered the question just dodged it. Of course those athiests who react strongly to the idea that its a faith already know why its an important point. It means that at some point both theist and athiests reach a point where proofs cant go any further and at that place we are both forced to a choice based on faith in the information we have at our disposal but its a faith non the less and as I've pointed out many times in our history people were conviced they were correct when they were wrong. To call athiest a faith therefore forces the athiest to confront the possability that no matter how improbable it may be but , they might just be wrong.

I do not have a belief that there is no god. I simply do not have a belief that there is a god. The former requires faith the latter does not.

You guys took away my birthday present while still on my birthday! Sad

OT: What else is there to say?
According to the dictionary, atheism comprises both positions:
1- I believe there is no god.
2- I do not believe there is a god.

These positions are not the same and the majority of atheists (at least around here and on any forums that I've been) will place themselves on position 2.
You appear to claim that all atheists take position 1, which although there are some who do, they are certainly not the majority.

I define as an atheist and the above applies to me. If atheism posits that there is no god, yes, it requires faith. If atheism is the lack of belief in the god claims, it requires no faith, as the supporting evidence for this position would be the lack of evidence for the god claims itself.

I'm totally open to the idea that I might be wrong. I still search for a god or a religion I can believe in. Problem is, my number one criteria for a god or a religion is that it has to stand up to critical thinking and, so far, none has.

I think if you answered my questions, then your question would be answered... unless you do think that your non-belief in unicorns is faith.

Then that probably covers none of us here.

In that case, it applies to almost nobody on this forum. We'd all agree, for the most part, that that position requires faith.

RE: Athiesm is a Faith?
Precisely what I was going to say, the whole point of atheism is a lack of belief.
