Teen critically injured after accidentally shooting himself in head

Investigators believe the teen was mishandling the gun when it was discharged. His friends who witnessed the shooting were not injured.

KENS 5 has learned the gun was given to the teen by his father. It reportedly is a firearm passed down throughout the family. Police said the teen's parents were at home at the time of the shooting.

Which once again negates the legal vs illegal argument. Most people are simply too fucking stupid to understand "I wouldn't harm people" and "I know what I am doing" are simply not enough to be responsible, and not having a record at the time of a legal buy also doesn't prevent stupid shit like this happening.

Thomas Strickland explained after officials arrived that he sleeps with a handgun in his bed for protection, and that he accidentally shot himself early Sunday morning when he thought someone was in his home.

I'm sure glad these little gun fuck-ups are so "rare."  Of course, these are just the ones that make the news....

My biggest concern is how many may not be "accidental", but just 'riding the train'. I own guns and I just cannot understand a lot of these "accidental" shootings. Especially the; "I was cleaning my gun and it went off".
