If you knew a damned thing about the history of New York City's "Hell's Kitchen" you'd know how stupid your non sequitor is.

POVERTY not race, is the issue. You used the word "black". Urban poverty was also the problem for the Irish when they were the majority living in New York City's "Hell's Kitchen". They were treated in the same stupid manor you are treating blacks today. You are scapegoating them by accusing us of making race the issue when it is living conditions that are the issue. Blacks simply happen to be the most affected by poverty in this point in history.

If you lived in Libya or Egypt you'd also be effected by poverty. POVERTY and no one is blaming all white people or even all rich people. We are blaming our climate which is having an affect on everyone. There are also poor whites and poor hispanics too. YOU made it the issue, not us.

Judging from history, I'd say wealth is a get out of jail free pass for crime. I mean, how many bankers went to jail for the housing crisis? How many Enron executives went to jail for that collapse? You want to know why OJ Simpson got off?

...it's seems as if they're making excuses for violent crime and violent criminals,...that we should be understanding and sympathetic to the poor sad violent criminal because, after all, it's not really his fault...he's just a product of his environment....it's especially true of leftwingers when the criminal or the victim happens to be black, they want a white scapegoat to blame, (and yes, there are a few on this forum who take what opportunity they can to demonize whites)....this is evident in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman when the left and black organizations judged and convicted Zimmerman without even knowing all the facts of the shooting, and that there has yet to be a trial....Zimmerman is obviously of mixed race, (his mother is hispanic and his father white), but the leftwing newspaper, New York Times, wanted so much to accuse a white man, that they referred to Zimmerman as a white / hispanic....as one commentator said, if Zimmerman had done something great, the left would never have mentioned that he was half white, but would have praised him as a Hispanic who did something marvelous...it's the criminal and his total disregard for his victim, not poverty, nor his race that's to blame....(and let's stop acting as though the matter of racial issues are somehow taboo and not open to discussion).

The US and the UK have fairly comparable definitions for assault, so that won't get you very far. You think your murder per capita rate is going to save the day on this one maybe, whats that number again? Well lets see, we have about 3.3 murders per 1ook, you have about 1.4 - so that's pretty nice. Less likely to be murdered by half, twice as likely to be assualted. "Safer" isn't exactly the word I'd use.

@Brake the statistics of oeverall gun owenership in the US are heavily skewed by subsets of the population just as heavily as murder rates by firearms are skewed. A useful observation.

Just to add, a lot of the assault statistics are skewed by violence on a night out on Fridays and Saturdays (I found figures a while back based on police areas in various English and welsh counties that saw 'violent crime' escalate massively on Fridays and Saturdays).

That is an issue that revolves around issues with the so-called 'drink culture' that exists in some areas around the country (I dispute this idea to a degree but it certainly is a problem in some areas)

Also, the figures (If I can find them, which I will attempt to do) would show violent crimes heavily centralised in some of the poorer inner city areas and in popular 'drinking' areas throughout various cities.

I think you'll agree, the last thing you want to do is add a gun to a scenario like that.
