All Hail the Second Amendment
RE: All Hail the Second Amendment
That Ruger was not a red herring. It is just as capable a weapon as the AR. It is semi auto and it was modeled after the M14.

Also, full auto is much more deadly that semi auto. It is just not practical to use full auto much because you deplete the magazine real fast. It is good for laying down cover fire or clearing a room out.

Just give up. This guy doesn't know anything about firearms.

Obviously not everything. A thing or two though? Yes. I'm here to learn more, but you are so certain about what it is you know, that you feel like I'm being belligerent when presenting what I know or claim to know. Do you feel like I'm out to take away your guns?

It's so easy to go about your life and ignore everything I'm saying by just stating, "[he] doesn't know anything about firearms." Nice.

I also apologize if I've missed points or overlooked a few things. I've been out of town the past few days, so I've been typing everything on my mobile phone. Editing my posts have been an issue too. Sad

Okay, so the Ruger, not being a red herring, is something you want included in this discussion. What's the reason for bringing it up? To bait me into giving away that I'm not a gun expert, something I never claimed to be?

So, yes, it can be considered equivalent to military grade, despite your attempts at silly semantics. So giving it the same capabilities but calling it something different, for you, makes it something different. Am I understanding you correctly?

But it's not. You are quite wrong and you appear not willing to listen or learn.

The question I guess is do you support the ban of all semi auto rifles?

I don't own any guns, but I am exasperated by the ignorance of the gun control movement. The "reasonable limits" that the movement proposes are insane. Case-in-point, Feinstein's gun bill.

So if it's semi-automatic, it's okay for civilian distribution? You guys have some strange ways to justify this.

An M16 is capable of semi-auto, three-shot burst, and full auto. All of them.

Your question belies your confusion.

No one expects you to be an expert. However, you should be familiar with action types, terminal ballistics and technical terminology in regards to firearms if you want to debate public policy. Why should anyone take an uninformed opinion seriously? You can learn a lot by taking a basic firearms safety course.

It is to educate you and demonstrate that your opposition to the AR-15 is confused.

A Mini-14 and an AR-15 are functionally identical, i.e. semi-automatic rifles chambered for .223 Rem/5.56mm NATO, capable of accepting a box magazine of up to 30 rounds.

That's what I'm trying to process. I am definitely not convinced that semi-autos are necessary for civilian home ownership. The discussion has progressed into defining the difference between military weapons, semi-autos, and assault rifles, which seems to be a distractor from trying to figure this out.

I know it might sound strange, but my experience in the Air Force is actually one of the main reasons I'm not sure that rifles of much use in a person's home. I agree with stand your ground laws and castle laws, but handguns and shotguns seem much more effective in these instances.

I'm also a fan of concealed carry, as a law abiding citizen can surreptitiously get the drop on a trouble maker.
