Thanks for your honesty. I've carried a blade of one type or another every day of my life from age 5, and you're correct, not one accidental discharge and not one single open-carry stop. I've never been told that my blades make others uncomfortable, and I often receive compliments on my pieces.

I understand the utility of a pocket knife or bladed multi-tool like a Leatherman, but I don't understand walking around town with a kukri.

I'm fortunate to live in an area where there are many wonderful plants. I'm a bit of an herbalist, and I harvest many specimens almost daily. A kukri is long enough, and utilitarian in a practical sense for my needs. Walking around town with a machete would be a bit too much, but a 10" blade is perfect for my needs and it doesn't arouse any alarm. I also carry a small knife as back-up. My fathers taught me the value of always having a sharp blade at hand.

NPR also had an update this morning. The girl's family was on vacation from New Jersey. The range's age limit for instruction is 8.

I can't help but think of how traumatized the little girl must be. I can only hope that she matures with an understanding that she is not culpable in the man's death.

I feel so sorry for the little girl to have to live through that and remember it. I'm sure it will haunt her.
Personally, I don't see it as she shot him as much as he shot himself using her hands. Most Auto's climb with each shot. No inexperienced shooter should ever touch an auto.

Living in the South, to be honest guns are not the problem. For one just like banning alcohol it will only fuel the black market. Majority of all gun crimes are done so with illegal weapons. Banning guns again is NOT solving the psychological problem. It is ignoring the problem and scape goating plan and simple.

We need to fix our societal issues, that would solve the gun violence. Aka in a timid society no one will be using guns to kill people. It is simple, keep guns out of psychos yes, but ignoring the fact we live in a country where families are not taken seriously, mental issues are blamed on the victim, we work more than 40 hours for pennies, greed and sociopathic tendencies are celebrated, getting sick once can destroy your life, education is more than the price of gold and no one cares about any of that. Yet we wonder why the fuck people are shooting each other? The issue is more complex, as intelligent as some people are. Looking at this issue with such binary thinking is well ignorant.
