I want New England to be its own country, or join up with Canada.
A lot of variation is the understatement of the year my friend.
In a divorce, there's only two sides. If splitting one country into two is far-fetched, than splitting one into multiple isolated regions due to the myriad of racial and social preferences this country has would be outright impossible.
Lets keep it simpler for this particular far-fetched unrealistic scenario shall we.

I do not think its far-fetched. I think it's over simplistic as a representation of the diversity in America. I'm excluding natural resources here.

I think maybe the liberal side would be on the western half of the united states - sharing the bread basket of course. Ergo, the conservative to the east.
Visitation would of course be completely ok with proper passport - as you would no longer be a citizen of our neighboring country.
We could call them West America and East America (being that the states are no longer united, it would seem silly to keep the title).

East and West America? Nah. If we're going to just have two sides, North and South makes more sense due to the political divide.

You don't think there's a divide between east and west as well? The bible belt runs north and south you realize.....
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. True, but you'd be ignoring New England and the Mid-Atlantic region. The Bible belt is much more concentrated to the South. But no matter how you divide it-- if its gonna be two regions, it's gonna probably be a choppy-ass divide
EDIT: I will say this, its true that the South-East contains the Bible Belt, so I do see where the East-West idea came from

Well if you have to destroy your democracy, as an outsider, could I put forward edges and middle. The old Joan Rivers observation that intelligence is affected by the sea, as you move from the coast to the middle of America people get more stupid.
Middle and edges would be good for the rest of the world because the edges would be a sort of quarantine zone to protect us from your worst aspects.

This is to be expected, as until very recently proximity to the ocean (or some navigable, deep waterway) was of the utmost importance for civilization. The regions that we look at now and notice impoverishment in are hardly surprising, they were very recently frontier regions (and yes, this includes the west and mid atlantic, some southern states- although other factors are involved obviously). You don't pack up and move your family to a frontier because the society you live in offers you opportunity...........
(my family went to appalachia because they were the wrong shade of lipstick for the coastal northeast, for example)

Not to mention that the west coast (LA, Hollywood, San Fran, etc) is very liberal. Regardless there would be no perfect line no matter how many you drew.

Yeah I was thinking about that as well. This country is such a bitch to chop up.
