I was raised to be what I wanted to be.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
Was anybody here raised non-Christian?

Born and bread Atheist and my dislike for religion got stronger.
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful" - Edward Gibbon (Offen misattributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca or Seneca the Younger) (Thanks to apophenia for the correction)
'I am driven by two main philosophies: Know more about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you' - Neil deGrasse Tyson "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain
Yeah I would say I wasn't brought up in a religious way.I was encouraged to form my own views and opinions and decide those kinds of things myself.Which is how it should be,but that is not the case, guess child abuse isn't completely illegal after all.
Like many of you I was raised Catholic, isn't it astounding how many of us ended up athiests? If there's an argument against the Catholic church if ever I saw one it's with the amount of people who grow up and get as far the fuck away from it as possible.
My religious upbringing amounted to some old guy putting magic tap-water on my forehead some time before I can remember. Other than that my parents weren't fussed.

I was raised not-very-religious christian. Never went to church. Had a children's bible with Jesus stories in it. Was taught not to hate Gays, etc. My father never showed interest in religion; it was my mother's idea but she's like a pantheistic Buddhist now or something.
Notice how most people here were raised as 'not that religious' Christians? That's not because it's the secret path to Atheism, it's because the majority of the country (The US anyway) is not very religious Christians.
My mother is a Jew who Converted to Catholicism. I often tell people that I was raised to feel guiltier than any other human. ![]()
Raised in a secular Jewish (culturally speaking) home.
Both my sister and I were brought up to think for ourselves. She became a biologist that is vaguely 'spiritual'. I am an agnostic atheist. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence. |
