Care to turn it around and proclaim "Jesus does not save, people do?". I didn't think so. Typical relies worminess in claiming credit where none could be do, and shirking responsibility when substantially responsible.

Religion leads millions of people to violence who otherwise would have left the scene peaceably sullen.

But the point is religion damaging as religion has been, it has been overtaken as the main cause of large scale violence by conflicts over resource and political influence a long time ago, if it ever had been the main cause at any time, which I doubt. That religion is the junior partner in crime does not make any less of a criminal.

Religion allows people to do bad things and feel blessed. It makes the part that should have been elevated into a partner for the part that is debased. It turns the part of man's mind that should separate him from beasts into the basest part of the beast. But it is not responsible for the whole beast.

Because religions teach you to think in a very black and white context, so anybody who disagrees with you is instantly evil and you must kill them in wars even though that's apparently a sin.
