I am more than likely bipolar with psychosis. Don't know which bipolar. But I definitely have a mood disorder and I definitely had quite the long ass psychotic episode, so I'm either bipolar or schizoeffective. If you ever do go on meds, my advice is to never settle for anything that is bothering you. Like when they put me on risperidol, I did my best to get off that shit and did and am so fucking glad, my new antipsychotic has no side effects what so ever.

If it's bipolar with psychosis, that would be type 1. Type 2 does not feature psychosis or delusions.

This. Fucking this. I put up with intolerable side effects for a year before I insisted that my prescriber take me the fuck off Seroquel (which is, IMHO, grossly overprescribed to people who don't even need an anti-psychotic). Don't make the same mistake I did.

I didnt want to say which bipolar because I havent dissected each type since... like, a year ago so I dont remember much (thanks, psychotic episode!), but I was thinking type 1 is more accurate.
Seroquel is a NIGHTMARE for a lot of people holy shit. So are risperidol and zyprexa. Abilify has more mixed results. Generally, older anti-psychotics are better for some reason. But everyone LOVES pushing the newer ones.

Seroquel turned me into a zombie. Abilify sent me into the stratosphere. Both of them are insanely expensive. Yeah, they do love pushing the newer stuff. At one point, I was paying nearly a grand a month for meds, out of pocket until I hit my deductible - and the side effects made me miserable. Getting on more reasonable meds was closer to $60/month, with tolerable side effects - and I was much, much happier.
What really gets me is when I see ads on television for things like Seroquel and Abilify as adjuncts to anti-depressants to treat depression. Really? Pushing powerful anti-psychotic drugs to people who are merely depressed and not experiencing any psychosis whatsoever? What could possibly go wrong?

Oh shit, that IS expensive. My insurance is actually good so I almost never pay more than $5 for one medication, but I realize I am very VERY lucky.
I have a friend who tried every anti depressant on the planet and he still has excessive depression symptoms -- he actually NEEDS one of those anti-psychotics to supplement an anti-depressant but the insurance company wont give it to him. In the case where every anti depressant fails, I get it. If you only tried prozac or something, giving you an anti-psychotic is fucking stupid.

I've covered 100% after I meet my deductible. The first $5000 is on me. It sounds bad, but given my situation, it's actually better than a traditional insurance policy. My annual costs are fixed, and lower than the premiums on the traditional policy my company offers (except I think they don't offer it any more because no one actually signed up for it).

Yeah, there are those cases to be sure. But my point was that advertising on television isn't going to be profitable if you're trying to reach that <1% of people who actually need the stuff to suppliment an anti-depressant. So it seems evident to me that they're pushing those drugs to people who don't need them.

Well I'm glad your insurance worked out :3 still sucks you had to pay that much at first but yeah, as long as you're good that's all that matters.
And advertising on television... you're right. Yeah. They want people to take their fucking drugs more than they want people to get actual help. Not to mention - People dont even know they are anti-psychotics from the commercials! When I switched onto partial risperidol and partial abilify, people were like "WUT why are they giving you an anti-depressant in place of an anti-psychotic?" It's an anti-psychotic, people.
