I realise that I'm not a cranky old atheist - at least not in the same league - my own answer to catfish's question would be that I've never been subject to any sort of abuse by religious people outside of an atheist forum. Maybe it's because the internet brings out the worst in people, or maybe abusive religious people tend to be attracted to the internet. Maybe it's simply because I tend not to bump into religious types in my day to day activities, consciously anyway; I shall probably never know.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
