Anyone familiar with the 'proper' Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror"? When Spock had a beard, if that helps? One crucial plot element (though I might just be thinking of the James Blish paperback adaptation, based on the original draft script) was that when Kirk and his senior officers switched places with their other, violent, Universe's alter egos, it was easier for our Kirk as a civilised man to feign being a barbarian than for the barbarian version to act civilised. You can take this to mean whichever way you wish, but it does illustrate the difficulties of either side of the fence to portray someone from the other successfully enough to get away with it for long - Poe's Law notwithstanding.

Yep. Atheists get more leeway on atheist forums. Just like Christians get to do things their way on Christian forums (In fact, isn't there a Christian forum out there that specifically bans atheists from posting anywhere but a sub forum specifically designated for atheists?). That's just the way things work.

What I find interesting about that episode is the button. Evil Kirk had a TV screen in his cabin. He could pull up anyone on the screen, press a button, and the person was instantly killed. No one knew who did it or how they did it.

Yes, that's true (and kudos to your pasta for being at least knowledgeable about proper Trek!)

There is a flaw, though, in his analogy; which is that xtians believe they actually do have such a button. It may not disintegrate people but its invisible, watchful presence is supposed to be there in the background, just waiting to strike the unwary and the unrepentant. As such, they fear it just as much as the characters in the episode fear Bad Kirk's button. Maybe try that one on your pasta? I'd be very interested to hear what he says.
