I've watched that vid many months ago. I'm glad that I'm in England. You admit to being an atheist here and you'd recieve smiles and compliments. I have wondered what would happen if I went over there and openly admitted to having no religion?

Because belief isn't a choice no, you're either convinced or you're not.

And even if it was a choice, it's not exactly a 'free' choice since there's no evidence for 'free' will, only will really. Unless you're talking the compatabilist sense of free will, but then that's just 'will' really.

Lots of things are a choice. If I get up or lie in a few minutes. Whether I choose one shirt or another to wear, If I have porridge or cornflakes for breakfast or a juice... I have a myriad of choices.

So with belief, a specific belief not possible to 'stumble into', such as Christianity, a person has to make a personal choice to believe or not. Non belief is the default position.

With the person in the video, supposedly belief was not a choice he was given.. yet he discovered for himself that he did indeed have a choice, and he chose to not believe, or to drop the pretense of belief perhaps. His mother (?), admonishing him for declaring his unbelief, confirms denial of a choice when it comes to her son. Which is very odd.

With them...whatever you 'feel like' or 'decide upon' you'll 'choose to' have...but with a belief...irrespective of whether you fucking like the belief or not...or think it's something you'd wish to 'decide upon' or not in anyway...it's not a decision and not a choice because whether you're convinced or not is irrrespective to your preferences...

It's not a preference like pizza or anything like that....unless you're getting actual belief mixed up with thinking that belief is a 'really good thing', which is more of... belief in belief :p

But then if you believe in belief.....that's not a choice either...it's just then the 'belief' does become more like a preference...because it's not an actual belief it's just that you think the belief is a 'good thing'

You could fucking hate not believing and not believe, you could hate believing or believe, or you could love eitehr or be completely indifferent, it's got nothing to do with preference or decision...it's just down to whether you're actually convinced or not, irrespective of what you want...

...it's not something you decide upon...it's neutral, it's a matter of whether you like it [b]or not[/b[].
