I had RE at my school and I didn't mind it. They aren't forcing religion on you, they are teaching you about many religions and the differences between them. No harm done.

I am of the opinion that religious instruction is best served via the churches and has NO PLACE in public schools.
ALL chaplains supplied by various religious groups should not have tax exemptions or failing THAT should include ethics classes (which are more interesting and don't involve grovelling to a deity)

That isn't how religious education is here. It is a proper teacher that takes the class. You get taught about various religions of the world. There is no forcing any particular religion on you. It is simply about learning about what beliefs are out there. I don't see any problem with that. It is also an optional class after a couple of years at high school.

Funding is drying up here in OZ for "proper teachers to take Ethics classes" thank you our Labor govt! 
Where "religious" classes get funding, Ethics classes do NOT! Sorry state of affairs from our current PM (not for long)

Dat sucks. Our classes were actually called Religious and Moral Education. Most of it is actually just about morality. 
The teachers at my school who ran the RE classes were the Philosophy teachers.

Our current Pm and her ministry seem to think they have the franchise on education in this country. They really are not as educated as they like to think they are imho. And NONE are qualified in the area of education, accounting, financial management (which I have studied) or anything else that would constitute the running of a government.
Can't wait 'til September.
