Reading your posts is starting to make me glad I quit religion.

Webster's dictionary defines faith as firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

This helps your argument how exactly?

I'll save him the trouble of typing out a response: The dictionary obviously has a leftist bias and is trying to brainwash you...or something.

RE: New atheist.. question
The bible says "faith is evidence of things unseen"
I disagree and have no problem saying that the bible is wrong with regards to the definition of faith.

Though, maybe it is right; in which case, we should allow 'faith' in the courtrooms, exams, competitions and identity-proof.
Faith isn't a desirable trait to have.

RE: New atheist.. question
Ya know what is really weird??

Being able to manipulate the universe to your own specific needs. (which I MUST remind all and sundry - are essentially petty and easy to accommodate)

At a sub-atomic level the universe (and everything in it) is just "smoke and mirrors" at a macro level the universe is just"smoke and mirrors" pretty yes, absorbingly diverse yes pertinent to this hominid on an unregarded planet 3rd out from an insignificant star called Sol (of all things! Dodgy ) I mean really! Hmph

And you are worried about a book? Written by illiterates about superstitions that existed over 2,000 years ago?

You know what is "unseen"? The affection your spouse/ child/ parents/ friends/collegues have for you, the belief that YOU CAN make a difference and the fact that as a species we are still here.

THAT is what is "unseen" the rest? Just mind wanking mate imho

I believe I will wake up in the morning, based on reasonable expectations, based on the fact that I've woken up every morning for 18 years.

Slightly different to believing there's some supernatural entity just outside the universe because it says so in a book.

Quote:From demonstrating it to you, that is true.

Empirical evidence should be demonstrable to anyone.

But cars wear out and break. And I don't believe in things because of a book...

They do wear out and break. Humans also die in their sleep. That's exactly the point I'm making.
Just because we believe something, doesn't mean it's true.

I thought the point you were trying to make was "Faith isn't a desirable trait to have". I believe I showed you how that is untrue.
