Officials in Santa Fe are claiming that New Mexico law already prohibits marriage discrimination based on the fact that their constitution forbids gender discrimination and marriage has not been defined as between one man and one woman.
This one is really interesting, though, in that no law was passed, no vote was made, just elected officials interpreting the law the way they want and instructing people under them to act as if the law had been passed.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The GOP has been losing a lot of their fight over same sex marriage with many of their number actually supporting it. Do they have enough piss and vinegar to fight it any longer or have we reached the point where the force pushing for same sex marriage has gotten stronger than the force resisting it?
