objective morality is Yahweh does what He wants.
its part of the job description

Ah, yes, the ol' Divine Command Theory, whereby god gets to behave in a manner closer to a mixture of serial killer, sexual deviant and totalitarian dictator all rolled into one. A being with worse morals than Stalin.

If god says baby killing, sex slavery and genocide are good, well then by golly they ARE good.

And you think worshiping such a monster is a-ok? Who else but a theist is forced, nay REQUIRED to defend genocide? Too funny.

the Divine command is for Christians to love our neighbor as ourselves.
what are you ranting about?
Yahweh's commands to the Jew?

Quote:Nothing you posted here refutes the point I am making about morality, which is simply that human beings should base their morality on the survival, success, betterment, and mutual benefit of their fellow human beings and the human race in general.
It wasn't meant to. The extent of my post was to point out that man's 'morality' is not the standard you believe it to be. That's it, that's all.

Quote:Your blind willingness to accept a standard of morality that is based on an imaginary deity is actually counter-productivity to your very real and verifiable existence as a human being.
By design. As it makes us dependent on God. If we are completely dependent on God we will be receipents of the 'proof' that has alluded you, everyday.

drich Wrote:Which is the very reason we have been put here on this earth. To make that desision. Is Heaven worthy more over is the idea of staying with God in Heaven for eternity what we want to do?

Quote:In no way was my 3rd point any concession about the existence of such a place. I was merely pointing out that what is being described in the Bible as heaven, is not something that would appeal to any person interested in things like liberty, diversity, and meaningful interaction.
Read the quote of mine you high lighted again. I agree, not everyone here (whatever the reason) will want to goto Heaven or be a slave to the living God for an eternity.

Quote:If being a mindless drone, who's only purpose is to constantly and infinitely kiss some serious ass, appeals to you, more power to you. Or, maybe I should say less power to you.
I believe the same way you do. If you want to be 'liberated' from God for eternity, then may you be able to do so in the 'hand basket' of your choosing.

Quote:That's not what it means at all, not even close. That verse was specifically addressing prophecy, which you would know if you had read the verse that preceeded it:

1 Thes 5:20
Do not treat prophecies with contempt

That verse is not asking you to question your faith. But, as a fellow human being, I am.

Ah, no. Nice try at an contextual exegesis though. Here's a tip when trying to build a contextual exegesis one must take a broader swath of scripture than just a glimps of one verse before the verse in question for example The NKJV identifies and groups the following verses together:

Various Exhortations
12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Even the NKJV classifies this bank of scriptures as "Various exhortations or sayings/tips" Meaning each is a stand alone verse.

As you can see there is not one aspect of what i believe that has not been tested by me, and again by people like you everyday for the last 6 years. what you have asked and are learning to do now for yourself is an old hat that I wear comfortably.

Oh, I sense another whining bout of "the old testament doesn't count!" coming up!

We've never heard that one before, dude! Feel free to go there! Rolleyes

If it is good to god, is that an absolute? Good everywhere, all the time? Or is it not absolute?

I congratulate you, then, on at least being more intellectually honest than some others claiming to be saved. Good job.

Still a problematic position, but at least less of a contradictory one, with you. That's worth... something, at least. Tongue

So how do you reconcile that utterly immoral book with the supposedly benevolent nature of your god? Why would you ever want to spend eternity with a being who would do the things god does in the old testament?

So, when god orders genocide, it is morally acceptable solely because god orders it?
