Rhythm is a kiddo because of how he acts, not how old he is. Anyway, I'm 21.

Thanks for answering my question, appreciated. I am not intending to use the information against you in any way.

How does this purported soul power itself? How does this soul physically move the ions to make the impulses of thought in the brain. We know how much energy it takes to fire a neuron so where does the soul get this energy?

Do stupid people have a stupid soul and smart people have a smart soul?

Why does LSD cause people to have "trips" that people claim that "enlightens their soul?"

Why is the old testament/ old Hebrew notion of "soul" different from what you describe?

Precisely.

Awesome. I was expecting you to troll with, "You're young! You know nothing!", especially with my comment about Rhythm. Thank you for the civility.

Tex Wrote:We have the processing that includes the soul and the processing that doesn't. The physical processing will do most of the work, but some of the analysis is not (quantity, quality, and relation). If I'm shown a blue triangle, there are no activities of the soul for me to know its a blue triangle. If I'm shown multiple blue triangles and asked to count them, my soul has to process the quantity.

Brakeman Wrote:Do stupid people have a stupid soul and smart people have a smart soul?

Tex Wrote:(A) kid's brains must be practiced at counting to make it quick. The soul here does not to all the work. The child receives the immaterial stimuli, quantity, regardless of training, but the brain has to be trained use it. The soul is not a substitute for the brain, and without a healthy brain the ability to count is hindered just like any physical process. A healthy kid with no training will learn to count on their own, but schools certainly hasten the process.

Brakeman Wrote:Why does LSD cause people to have "trips" that people claim that "enlightens their soul?"

I didn't fully answer this one... LSD is physical stimuli.
Tex Wrote:The soul understands no physical stimuli, only immaterial stimuli.

Brakeman Wrote:Why is the old testament/ old Hebrew notion of "soul" different from what you describe?

I didn't answer this yet at all. The Old Testament primarily uses 2 words (although is at least one more) to say "soul". The first is rauch, the second neshama. The ruach is only ever described in people, while neshama is described in any group of living thing (although not so sure on plants...). Many people take this to mean the words are to designate the difference between people and animals, but that's not exactly the case. Neshama is used to describe people just as much as animals. The only definite conclusion from the original Hebrew is that "ruach" has a unique connection to God. The words could easily overlap in other contexts, but the "unique relationship to God" is an easy conclusion of the connotation of that word. My whole design is actually very very similar to this, although I'm using Greek/Latin styled metaphysics while the OT is in ancient Hebrew. I've already mentioned in this thread that other animals have souls too (my current example is quantity, and many can count) while also briefly mentioning that humans have a "rational soul" which has a couple extra gadgets than the animal soul. This does hit the basic, basic notion of the OT, but the Hassdic Jews today run a 5 part person, not a 2 (I actually run a 3!!!). It's safe to say any metaphysical details on the concept is lost in history. So, in order to find what is actually true, I use logic.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Not exactly. What he is saying, and correct me Tex if I'm wrong, is this. Numbers are formal features of reality that have fixed meanings in a way that no set of physical objects can.

A heifer and her calf walk by a farmer and his son. The son says to his father, "I guess that means Bessie gave birth." The farmer in response says, "I think it means you left the gate open."

Here we have an physical system being interpreted with two meanings. In actually, the sight of a heifer and her calf can have innumerable meanings assigned to it, one of which could be the value of 2. Physical systems have no definite meaning. In contrast to this, the number 2, as an immaterial object of thought, has a very definite meaning independent of any physical system that it could describe as conforming to its value.

...and where exactly does a mass of neurons get its qualitative content? How does the expenditure of energy produces the feeling of pain or the memory of your grandmother?

(March 31, 2013 at 1:20 am)GDVUIFQFPD Wrote: Furthermore, unlike anything, ever, which is actually immaterial, quantities are not open to interpretation. The integer 3 is always the integer 3. You cannot interpret the integer 3 as being the integer 2 unless you modify the integer 3 in some way that it is no longer the integer 3, such as subtracting the integer 1 from it. This is an artifact of the innately material nature of numbers.
Actually, you are proving Tex's point. Because integers are not open to interpretation, i.e. they have fixed formal properties, they do not depend on any particular set of physical facts. Therefore they exist independently of the things they describe.

Wheres does the soul? How does the soul accomplish this? It's Texes baby Chad, attacking some other proposition isn't going to make Tex any more correct. Does this shit come standard with apologists?

RE: Soul
I hadn't been thinking of James Brown but there certainly are better meanings to attach to "soul" than auxiliary immaterial brain supplement. This is such a reach and really so pointless. If that is all you can think to make of a 'soul' then why even bother?
