Being forced to go to church.

RE: Being forced to go to church.
Sad I feel bad for them, as a parent (I feel bad for me, too, as a daughter). I just put myself in their shoes (though they probably don't put themselves in ours). (talking back and forth between myself and me Argue )

meh! Do whatever you want. (walks out)

just kidding. I'm back. Don't be mean, unless they do really stupid shit like tell you to stop asking questions or they'll punish you for thinking. Then be mean. If they at least try to answer, keep going, but be nice.
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"

There is no way to "be nice" by asking those questions.

Eh, don't worry about being mean or nice. Be sincere.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

On the bright side there is a great opportunity to ask those awkward questions they don't like and watch people squirm. Might eventually get you uninvited to church if you do it well Tongue

RE: Being forced to go to church.
I understand exactly how you feel! I'm right there with you. However, my parents don't force me fortunatly every single time. We only go on special events if someone invites us. Such as Christmas. However, I just have to stand there awkwardly. Majority of the time I am sleeping or on my phone. This is probably disrespectful to a lot of people at the church, but I'm not going to sit there for a couple of hours listening to something that doesn't make sense to me. I do stand up when they tell us to and bow my head out of respect but I'm not going to pray and raise my hands with the rest of them. Tongue LOL.

I personally just have to deal with it but everyone's advice was right. You should just ask uncomfortable questions haha. Today I was talking to my mom at lunch and she was telling me "You don't have to see God, he exists in your heart. The faith for God gives you the personal values you have today." I said, "So you can't have personal values without believing in a God?" And she got kind of uncomfortable, "No, you can still have values with in yourself but you need that faith." LOL. Religious people just don't even really have a something to back up what their saying. I just kind of deal with it.

Honestly, I'd put my foot down on grounds of religious tolerance. They should tolerate you. What's the worst they can do?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Yeah, many of us have been there. It sucks.

I think Thor offered the best advice:
Thor Wrote:Maybe once they realize you're not "learning" what they want you to learn they'll give up and leave you at home.

Start asking about all the atrocities. The rape, the murder, the slavery, the incest. It's all in there and it's all horrific. "Learn" far more than they want you to learn and continue to regularly remind them that you want no part of it all the while.

good luck.

Yeah, Cinjin's got the best course of action.

Question: If the point of our "fall from grace" is god wanting us to have free will, then how is it that we had free will to choose the apple, before we ate of the tree? And why make a tree of life to go with the tree of knowledge if he's just going to shut us out of the garden anyways and punish future generations eternally for a sin they did not commit?

Another question: If god never changes, as it states in both new testament and old testament: then why is he miraculously excused of all the carnage in the OT?

You ask questions... You either learn what it's about or your parents learn that they don't.

I guess some parents don't want to our can't yet legally leave kids at home alone.
