I was still learning how to "see" in-game, as it were, when I hit this bit. I marked it with a personal marker and came back after I had leveled up several times (meaning I had much more experience). I spent some hours on the couch one night finding them all, and got a headache for the way I was laying and the poor lighting in the room, which may have added to the irritation of the quest. Blackreach itself was beautiful - somewhere I'd love to explore especially if it were a full-immersion VR game. It seemed almost pointless to see the Falmer's helpers though - is there anything that's going to take me to that subterranean city later?

From http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Blackreach

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Elder_Knowledge <-- main quest, which I'm guessing you did.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Disce...ansmundane <-- concurrent to main quest, which you've done... given that you've been to black reach Smile

Blackreach is fantastic for mining (and free random-strength soul gems), there's a named dragon there, centurians everywhere (I collect their cores, so pretty Heart )... but other than these: there's no reason to be here except for the artistry of the place.

I don't recommend doing that.

I may have done something similar to that a few times on Morrowind when I thought the way to be awesome was by stealing everything. Mostly ended in a fucked up bloodbath and a lot of dead NPC's

I haven't done Dawnguard yet. I thought that was all about vampires.

naaaa

it includes alot of new things, including alot of sidequests.

the vampire stuff is simply the mainquest.

but the snowelves play a role in the main quest.

If you somehow gained the ability to MAKE the potions, well, now that would be a bit different.

Who else killed Lydia?

I rather pity the Snow Elves, for the betrayal they were shown by the Deep Elves.

I have to bitch about the dragon armor for a moment. I mean, you have to have a crafting skill of 100, it takes dragon bones and scales which take up half your inventory to carry around, and then, after spending all that effort to craft them, it turns out they're not even as good as the daedric armor?

WTF?

There are only two of them left, iirc. You can meet one of them in morrowind, and you can meet another of them in the Dragonborn expansion of skyrim.
