Your favorite paintings?

RE: Your favorite paintings?
As anyone who's recognised my avatar can guess, my personal all-time favourite is Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.

And fortunately, I go to college only a few blocks away from that painting. One of my minor ambitions is to one day have a full-sized copy of the painting. And ideally, one whose color balance got it right. You may notice in this copy, the sidewalk has a greenish tint. This is the colour balance on the actual painting; I'm not sure why it's usually portrayed as grey. Maybe to get around copyright issues.

Edward Hopper's a part of a trinity of my favourite painters, the other two being Goya and Van Gogh.

Also, for some reason, I've been getting into Pieter Breugel lately.

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

These are actually engravings, but close enough. These are by Albrecht Dürer.

Oh, I've always loved that one of the nightmare, Shell - Fuselli, isn't it?

I've always been partial to Bouguereau. I love most of his stuff, but this one especially. [nudity]

But by far I think my favorite is John William Waterhouse. I fell in love with him because of "The Lady of Shalott". I have his other of her in a boat, and also the second picture - the Soul of the Rose - as a print.

This is Stephanie Pui Mun Law. She does fantastic watercolors.

And how do you forget Froud, the vision behind Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal?

And last but very not least: Alan Lee - one half the creative effort behind Lord of the Rings (the other being John Howe, who deserves honorable mention. Lee collaborated on a book with Froud about fairies, and illustrated many things about the Fair Folk and Celtic myth, but my first introduction to him was a tome of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (it weighs a ton), illustrated with his ethereal watercolors.

I did a guest bedroom in a kind of sea foam green...that came out pretty good even though I hate painting.

Indeed. I named a main character in my last book after him. Well, just the last name.

It looks like we have similar taste in Art, Summer. Waterhouse is one of my favorites. I have several of his prints.

The following are not paintings specifically, but they are some of my favorites, all drawn by the artist M.C. Escher, one of the best in impossible figures.
