Why Some Of The Boys Backed Out
#31
RE: Why Some Of The Boys Backed Out
Kyu,

I've been thinking for a while that you should don the blue name. Please understand I don't think there is anything wrong with how you moderate. It would simply put you on even footing with the blue names in the forum and when you stretched the rules (Like many of us do from time to time) there would be no power differential and NOBODY could bitch at you when you got nasty. Ok, so you would still have the ear of the moderators and admins, but no system is perfect.

EvF,

Thank you for your autobiographical piece. To put it bluntly this is not about you. I have never felt even a twinge that you do anything that abuses the power differential, but Kyu does quite regularly. I should add that it is usually to great comedic effect, this was not one of those times, hence my feedback.

Here is the rule from these forums that supports my feelings:

Quote:No Flaming - Insulting or offensive content will be deleted immediately. This includes unreasonable personal attacks on members, posting angry rants with no real objective, and spamming people with a large number of swear words instead of making a point. Whilst making an insulting or impolite remark in a discussion is not covered by this rule, it is not recommended. If you cannot present your point without insulting someone, you don't have a point worth presenting.

The bolded part speaks directly to the issue. Anyway, I think I've made my point and totally derailed this topic as a side effect.

My point was that mod or no mod it shouldn't make a difference IMO, Unless power is being abused it's just a matter of rule breaking that neither a normal member or a mod should do.

I haven't seen where Kyu is 'abusing power' yet, what he said should be treated the same if he wasn't a mod IMO.

So while I agree that maybe he has broken a rule there, I think it would be the same if he wasn't a member - hence my point that it's not about whether he's a mod or not here, but about what he said and whether it's acceptable or not, irrespective of his mod status.

So my point was that I'd be the same in either case, and I'm a mod - and whether I'm a mod or not, if I broke a rule it's equally bad either way, unless I abused my power.

So where has Kyu abused his power? Because the bolded part applies the same mod or no mod.

Because it sounds to me like you're advocating that mods be on 'extra special behavior' - but people should try their best anyway! in either case, mod or no mod, people should try to be on their best behavior! IMO.

EvF,

No, I would hold all people to the same standard and there is always wiggle room within the rules otherwise many of us would be banned through strict adherance to the rules. The problem is when there is a conflict between two members one blue, one green; at that point the green member should use the power confered by the position to control the situation, not escalate the situation through personal attacks.

Okay. So where did Kyu abuse his power? Or are you just worrying that he will?

I don't think he abused his power.

I've said me peace.

Bored now

This thread has derailed horribly.

Rhiz, you have some great points and I understand what you're saying completely, and the situation is currently being discussed by the moderators in private. I don't really think it's appropriate to continue this discussion here.

I feel it prudent to close this topic now. If you have anything to add to the discussion, please PM a mod or admin that you feel comfortable in doing so with.
