And what about Utah??? It's overrun by crazies, but if you can get past that, the views are like nothing else, and the hikes are great.

Totally, actually if I would recommend one place to go for someone visiting the state it would be Utah. Moab, Arches national park, Canyonlands, Bryces Canyon. You would have a lifetime of stuff to do just in those places. There is really no need to interact with the Mormons while you are there and even if you do just consider it a little bit of modern cultural anthropology. I'd say go to the state with the best mosque facilities...
But that might just be me....

Also, I am certain that my knowledge of the English language is inadequate in order to have meaninful discussions with Mormons, thus I do not need to worry about it. New land, new people, new things to learn and the Muslim looks first for a place to run back to where he could have the same familiar 9th century desert goat fucker's doggerel regurgitated to him again. And good luck going back home to see the family after you leave the mosque facilities with your name on DHS's no fly list. It seems to me that if god is all powerful, then one mosque is as good as another, and thus wasting your money on making sure you're traveling to a state with an arbitrary 'best' mosque judgment is foolish as fuck. But what do I know - I don't base my travel plans on the nearest synagogue....

Can you give us some idea what you'd like to do, what interests you? Pretty much every state has something to see with regard to life sciences. Kentucky, for instance, has the most diverse forest in the Eastern U.S., and some very tasty cuisine. It is not the best state to visit if astronomy is your thing, though the Louisville Astronomical Society is one of the oldest amateur astronomy clubs in the country. If astronomical vistas are your thing, you can do worse by visiting Utah or Arizona. In fact, the best night time skies I've ever see are at Arches National Park, in Utah. You don't even need a telescope to be completely wowed by the skies there. Good luck.

Alabama! Come visit me!
Note: I'm just kidding. Don't come here. It's super boring. Especially avoid Cullman, Alabama. It's the most racist place I've ever been. |
