16 and 36 specifically require belief in Christ for salvation. Not doing so invites the wrath of God and the non-believer will perish. You have to ignore this to claim that non-believers will be saved

It's not the threat behind the statement that is insulting. Just as you said, it's hard to be bothered by places you believe to be imaginary. No, the insult comes with the implied sentiment behind the statement, namely that non-believers deserve to be punished.
