Dealing with psychopath nutjobs

Washington state (where I live) also legalized pot - the law was crafted in such a way to avoid interstate issues as much as possible. That won't necessarily stop the federal government from stepping in, but they have so far shown no interest in doing so - and it's questionable whether they have the authority to do so.
Thanks for that. It reminds me of when I was watching clips of the Republican primary debates online a year ago, most of the answers Ron Paul gave were something like "get the federal govt out of it!", and I just thought to myself if this guy wants the govt out of everything, then what is point of having a govt? But then I realized, he was referring only to the federal government, not the State governments who craft their own laws and have their own policies.

I think the less well off (read: red) states should use places like Washington, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts etc. as an example of what laws to implement or what bills to introduce. There is a reason why Massachusetts is far more well off than places like Oklahoma, I don't understand why they just don't copy the same model. It's not as if there's a language barrier, or a massive culture barrier (although I guess it is debatable).

Indeed, Mr. Paul's swansong of "get the fed out" was empty, he was perfectly okay with - and advocated for- the state governments involvement in the very same things to an equally or greater draconian degree.

Perhaps if you lined the baseball bat with newspaper pages you wouldn't be charged with aggression, but instead just being the good samaritan giving information?

Anyway, you did the right thing CD.

Try looking up some of our old laws that no one enforces but you could still actually get arrested for because people are too stupid and lazy to strike them off the books. Those are fun.

Lol yeah, that sucks, I was reading about all the mayhem about the so-called Bush tax cuts last year and the republicans holding Obama to ransom even though he's won the election. I mean, the guy just won the fucking national election and still they're not allowing him his way, despite majority of the nation voting for it? Boehner was acting like a real prick.

Although on the plus side for the US system, there are no checks and balances here, so when the conservative party came to power in 2012, they rammed through savage cuts to govt spending, much more vigorously than even the Conservative voters themselves had hoped. As a result we had a double dip recession. There's one lesson to be learnt here: cuts don't grow the economy! Someone should tell that to the Republicans.

There is a huge cultural divide in the U.S. between such places. You don't even have to travel very far to see evidence of it.

Though arguably, the same divide exists in blue states between urban and rural areas. For example, Oregon, Washington and California - they are largely rural states, and the rural areas tend to vote overwhemingly for Republican candidates and policies. However, the urban areas tend to be the opposite, and have enough population to keep all three states blue.

Indeed. There is far less culture shock for me when I travel to Canada, than when I have traveled to the south.

Well, the checks and balances bit doesn't suck at all, it's brilliant. It insulates us against the tyrannies of both the majority - and the minority.

Hell, I was the first one born in the north in my family, and at our family reunions I felt like Fes from "That 70's Show.'
