I think what's really important is how religion is coming off as an anachronistic belief system in a modern world of science. Add to that outdated views on morality & other social issues, and it's no surprise that religion is dying out.

I know theists here will just pick on those words and not read the article... but heck, at least we can later make fun of them for that.

To conclude, religion is declining because of the increase in choice, education, information, bad press, the idea that it is useless or counterproductive and the idea that its fundamental principles are illogical.

Perhaps it is a natural progression of society to leave religion and begin instilling morality through education and understanding, rather than fear and fallacies.

Religion is like the scaffolding of a society - It helps create it, but at some point it has to go.

The idea of religion dies out is one reason I am so excited to study it in school. The idea of our collective philosophy changing from a religious one to a secular one would be fascinating to teach.
