All's well that ends well.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The one I find most endearing is:

If we come from monkeys why are there still monkeys?

My reply:

If god made adam and eve from dust why is there still dust?

That single short statement of theirs is amazingly compact for all the things that are wrong about it. I love studying human evolution but I just don't give enough of a shit anymore to try and teach them how retarded they are.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.

Kalam's Cosmological argument.

Teleological argument.

Ontological argument.

Transcendental argument for existence of god.

They are all fallacious. Yet, so many theists believe they are compelling.

Dumb, dumb, dumb...

I fucking hate this crap. Why do these arguments fail?

Well, simple, would these people who use these stupid arguments buy the same arguments if someone with a different pet deity were using them?

You still are stuck with the fact that there are countless claims of various god/s.

If logic worked like they want it to, then by observing lightening would make Thor real. The Egyptians at least had the sun to point to when claiming it was a god, modern gods of Abraham have less than that.

How about humans make up gods because of our own human ignorance?

Humanity did make up gods out of ignorance. It was the best available explanation back in the Bronze age. That explanation works well for unbelievers, but religioholics will never buy it. They've too much invested in their belief system for that. Imagine GC's anguish if he were to wake up one morning and finally grok that all that studying he did of the Bible was a monumental waste of time? It would not be pretty.

Well don't act as if change is always impossible. I believed at one point, and we had a majority of the world's population believe the earth was flat. That changed, so society can change too.

Shit, I have a guy on another board whose name is EX MINISTER! Ayaan Hersi Ali also once believed and desperately wanted to be a good Muslim. When I first met my younger biological sister, we were both put up for adoption, when we met as adults in the mid 90s she was a believer and took me to her church. Now she and her husband are flaming atheists.

Will there be people who will never change? Sure, but when you look at the long term change in humans, we always seem to adapt.

If our species never questioned social norms our species never would have left the caves.

I agree with everything you said in post 15. It is not that I think that change is always impossible, just bloody damned difficult. It took me a long time, and I was looking. So there you go. My sisters, no way. One's a nun, the other is a Sunday school teacher. Which is not surprising coming from a fanatically religious background. But I got out at least. So no, it isn't always impossible, just bloody difficult.

From another site:

Quote:Tell me how you haven't been straightened out about GOD.

This below should straighten you out about the inner workings of GOD:

OK,...

According as ruler 1) A Single-Fold (or a one-fold)

According as rulers 2) A Couple-Fold (or a two-fold)

According as rulers 3) A Few-Fold (or a three-fold)

According as rulers 4) A Some-Fold (or a four-fold)

According as rulers 5) A Many-Fold (or a five or more-fold)

^That is all of the above "GOD" in measurements of even and uneven, similar and diverse, common and exclusive, and typical and exotic, aggreements of, by, for, with, and between four product souls whom make eight individual persons in all. Their aggreements are non-paradoxes and non-unstablenesses.

Those people do really exist ! I see them everyday !

I wish it were not the case but humans in our evolution have always been afraid of change. I think that too is evolutionary, once you latch on to something you think works, no matter how false it may be, you cling to it because you see others do it so the safety in numbers does produce the affect of having more ability to produce offspring.

But the good part is we also prove that we are capable of change and the world has gotten better in many ways, not in all aspects, but many ways. And yes it is bloody difficult. It took me almost a decade to go from Catholic to deist to agnostic deist to finally agnostic atheist.

But like I said, most sane people no longer believe the earth is flat, although I am sure in many third world countries and even in the west you still have pockets of uneducated nuts who might still believe it.

So our species has always been a mixed bag. I just keep fighting for the side of reason, education and science.

Meanwhile you have Megga Pators here in the states blame our social ills on not following god's laws. You have politicians here trying to use religion to turn back the clock on women's rights, and most certainly I see many on the right claim that our social ills are due to lack of prayer in school.

So we are simply in the west on less steroids than Islam is, but our right keeps wanting to sniff the same theocratic cocaine Islam does.

Humans don't like it when you fuck with their imaginary friends.
