The Last Movie You Watched
RE: The Last Movie You Watched
And the Deep Hurting Project is back, even if it's just for a week or two. This time around, it's because two movies got added to the So Bad It's Horrible list, and both of them are streaming. This week: Killing Me Softly, Chinese director Chen Kaige's first and only English-language film. In contrast with his previous works, one of which won the Palme D'Or at Cannes, this one bombed its initial UK release so hard that it ended up going straight-to-DVD in the US. Frustratingly, however, its So Bad It's Horrible entry gives little explanation for how it's horrible. Just that it changed some things from the original novel (which I haven't read), focuses on the sex, and includes some insane plot twists.
  • NIce to know that this static footage of a mountain top is actually being given some context. Hopefully, they'll explain more...
  • Okay, so Heather Graham sees Joseph Fiennes, she goes into his car, and the second he closes the door to his flat, they immediately  commence to fucking? And she only finds out his name and story after they fuck?
  • It's been 15 miuntes and there've already been four sex scenes? And the only thing this has on her scenes from Boogie NIghts is that she at least takes those rollerskates off.
  • Hmm... he's describing this event traumatic event, saying it's given him PTSD, all while giving a Kubrick stare and a grin. I wonder if this means he's secretly evil.
  • Why is this bitch so impulsive?
  • Jesus fuck, she  just saw her beau curb-stomp the guy who took her T-shirt, and saw him propose to her (indeed, asking her to marry him tomorrow) with the other guy's blood spatter still on his face. And she fucking goes along with it?
  • Yes, I know the story about how we're broken into two pieces and looking for our other half. IT comes from a much better movie:

And, yes, I know the actual legend dates back to Aristophanes' section in Plato's Symposium.
  • She got married in a sweater dress, that she  went commando in?
  • How the fuck is that gun legal in the UK? Haven't most small firearms that are easy to conceal been banned since a couple years before this film was set? I mean, it's technically a flare gun, but he reloads it with proper ammo, which should be illegal under the Firearms Act of 1997.
  • Phew, at least this scene of breathplay ended well.
  • So, the journalist isn't telling the truth because her article doesn't mention that Joseph Fiennes' character raped a woman in 1989? Is there any reason she would have known this?
  • And, wait a minute, this woman who faxed the journalist a hand-written note about him is the same woman who sent Alice typed and laconic messages? Why would she use two different methods with different people?
  • Yep, that's definitely a used cigarette. Why we panned over to it is a riddle for the ages, though.
  • Huh. He killed that group of mountain climbers with a shoddy anchor.
And next week: Just Getting Started.

Recently watched "Civil War" and am now wondering if that was intended as a future documentary.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Distinctly average, and can't see myself ever wanting to see it again. I guess my favourites would be Last Crusade and Temple Of Doom.

Fun fact: Spielberg says he made Last Crusade as an apology for Temple of Doom.

Yeah, I know it's not everyone's favourite... it's incredibly dark for one thing, and not really in the style of the others... as well having a ton of bad editing... but it's still one of the most memorable ones from my childhood.

THis week in the Deep Hurting Project is Just Getting Started. And, like last week, it's another one where the TVTropes' SBIH entry is vague about why it's so terrible. It's just that it wastes the talents of Tommy Lee Jones, Morgan Freeman, and Rene Russo on a bunch of shitty script.
  • Aw, how cute, they're actually trying to make this into a Christmas movie.  Joke's on you; Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is still a better Christmas movie in this vein.
  • Why is Ben Shapiro working in a retirement home?
  • $5,000 out of Petty Cash? Isn't that usually limited to about a few hundred at most?
  • This is just a bog-standard mob comedy. I don't think anyone would give a shit about it if they didn't cast two Oscar winners in it.
  • Why is this bit with a rattlesnake so fucking boring?
  • Everyone's favorite Santa Claus? Isn't that supposed to be a big taboo for events like this, just in case someone brings their young kids who haven't figured it out?
  • Johnny Mathis only did 42 albums? Because looking at his discog page on Wikipedia reveals that, by the time they made this movie, it'd be 72.
  • Okay, so Morgan Freeman's in the WPP; so why is he still such a high roller?
This movie's giving me fuck-all to work with. Good thing the Project's going back into dormancy.
