The Pope’s Exorcist (2023).

I dunno what all the hoorah was about. It wasn’t a great film, but it didn’t suck, either. Not Russell Crowe’s best work (that would be Cinderella Man), but he turned in a solid performance. Good special effects in the possession scenes, plot was a little too Dan Brown-ish.

Big takeaway: I was surprised that Franco Nero is still alive, thought he’d assumed room temperature a few years ago. Doesn’t look bad for 81.

Just got back from a showing of The Creator. Take some Blade Runner, a bit of Star Wars, a splash of Short Circuit, shake vigorously and garnish with a bit of the tech from Avatar and serve immediately. Big Grin

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the film, because the film doesn't ape any of these. But, you can clearly see their influence in the story, the set design, the cinematography, and even in some of the characterizations. All in all, it's a well made film with a good story that's well told.

ETA: Directed and co-written by Gareth Edwards who also directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so that easily explains the Star Wars influence, especially the look of some of the robots.

You'd have to have a hole in your head to watch that movie.

Or at least I tried watching it. As the title says it's an interview with god done by a serious reporter who interviews a guy who simply claims that he is god. Why would he trust this guy to even talk to him or how will his editors or readers take this seriously is a mystery.

Although the makers had the best intentions, the god really comes off as nothing more than a silly mythical creature on par with Santa. We learn right away that he is the god of the Bible and Torah, thus erasing Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. But how can he even be the god of both the Bible and Torah is also nonsensical since they exclude each other.

Of course, the reporter never asks him the hard questions, like "Who are other gods and why do billions think that they are gods?", "Why do you order people to rape and kill in the Bible?", but it's rather centered around atheism and Judeo-Christian religion. And you know how atheists are just selfish people angry at god and how they want to go back to him, the Judeo-Christian god, but not hindu gods.

The theme of the movie seems to be "Why do bad things happen to good people?" to which the god dances around, tells metaphorical stories, talks about free will, and says "Hey, imagine how the world looks like from my perspective." basically just imagine your own answer.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
