The Last Movie You Watched

This was an odd one: a children's CG cartoon set in the WW1 trenches, which makes it that much more interesting. It is, of course, about a real American dog that fought in the WW1.

The movie is good and entertaining, and while the animation is good, it seems thin on 3D models as a lot of scenes have only characters that are necessary for the story. It's also thin in textures in some scenes making it look like they couldn't afford computers with stronger GPUs.

Surprisingly, it seems to me this is the only movie which portrays the American experience in the WW1 battlefield and trenches: how the soldiers arrived there, how the French soldiers welcomed them, and how they ultimately weighed down on the war.

There is that movie "Sgt York" but it has very few scenes in the war and trenches, from what I remember.

Also, it seems this movie has a cult following as it has a whole Wikipedia devoted to it.

Spectacularly done in Technicolor the film is all about tension, jump scares, and suspense, while somewhat sweetly showing all of humanity against a common enemy in the early Cold War era. The special effects were spectacular for the time and hold up reasonably well in this now familiar story. The creature puppeteering is scary and we catch mere glimpses of the baddies while their machines maraud the cityscapes. No time at all is spent describing the downfall of the Martian hordes, which is the main criticism of the movie.

Widely referenced in bad drama (Independence Day, the recent remake) and excellent comedy (Mars Attacks!) the original is a must see for any movie fan.

That's a favorite of mine. The special effects are outstanding for the time. The only thing better is reading the classic book. H.G. Wells' prose is taut and lean.
