Wait, Chronicles of Riddick is not the new one? The new one is the one I want to see, whatever the fuck they're calling it.
Just "Riddick" apparently.
As long as Karl Urban's in it I'll watch . . .

Okay, I just finished Needful Things, and it is by far one of the best Stephen King movies. The story reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode "What You Need," and also may have inspired the Hulu series The Booth at the End. To sum up the entire movie, Leland Gout (the devil) moves into the small town of Castle Rock, and executes an elaborate plan to turn all the townsfolk against each other. Vandalism, animal killing, homicide, arson, rioting, and bombing ensue. It's pretty awesome (though I think if I had written it, I could have made it more awesome).
I was thinking,

Ooh. They had a segment on Cate Blanchett on 60 Minutes so now I want to see that.

You should have saved this one for last. None of the others I have seen are as good.

Watching The Ten Commandments on Blu-ray. A lot of older transfers have artifacts from upconversion and such, but this transfer is excellent. The image quality is great, the colors brilliant, and for a 1956 movie, the special effects are incredible.

Watched another episode of Blue Planet: Seas Of Life with David Attenborough. I've generally found nature shows narrated by him to be head and shoulders above other nature shows. It may just be the ones I've watched, but his tend to offer a panorama of species in each episode, devoting a short vignette to each, usually no more than a few minutes long per species. I find that much more engaging than the shows which focus on one species or location. Other nature shows tend to bore me. I don't think there's any reason to prefer the Blu-ray of this series over the DVD version, but I've got the series Planet Earth on Blu-ray, also with Attenborough, that should be a visual treat. The wildlife photography is stunning for what they got on film, more than for any especial visual clarity. But the panorama means a satisfying stream of unending and mind-boggling animal behaviors, and nature facts to delight any palate.
