It's a travesty to deface Lennon's work like that. The fucker should be sued.

He's dead dumb dumb. He also knows something you don't.

Lennon was an atheist or at the very least an agnostic. Just look at his lyrics, not only to Imagine, but to God (the Dream is Over), where he states, "I don't believe in Bible... I don't believe in Jesus... I don't believe in Buddha... I don't believe in Mantra..." etc. And it culminates in, "I just believe in me. Yoko and me, and that's reality." Doesn't sound like a believer to moi. There are other songs of his where a non-faith worldview can be inferred, if not explicitly stated.
I believe Yoko Ono still owns the rights to most of Lennon's post-Beatles music. The guy doing this cover could be sued, assuming he's selling this tripe.
It really bugs me when people misappropriate music or other artworks for their own rather than their intended purposes... My dad loves Bob Marley, yet he's a racist... I still don't understand how he reconciles his love for the artist with his worldview.

OOoooh.... Yeah... Sex with Yoko... where's the mind bleach....
I actually watched the vid... It sounds like a call for everyone to be schizophrenic.... "Imagine you can hear him... It's easy if you try..." Really creepy...

My objections isn't so much that Lennon a song is butchered. I actually prefer A Perfect Circles cover of "Imagine" over the original.

No, the issue here is that Christians had to once again interject their religion where it wasn't wanted. Imagine is a decidedly anti-religion song, but it's not enough for them to live and let live. No, they had to go and bastardize something because it didn't conform to their worldview, all under the air of self-righteousness. Congratulations, religion, you've poisoned one more thing you got your hands on. [/rant]

I feel about this as Christians would if I went and re-wrote the lyrics to "Jesus Loves His Little Children" to be about delusions gullibility.

Actually, they don't need to sell it for it to be a violation of copyright. Creating derivative works and publishing them is also a violation of copyright. It might slide in as fair use as a form of literary criticism, but that's doubtful.

The original is my favourite song as it stands.

That's interesting. Why is that? Do you imagine a Christianity with no hell or heaven? How about judgement and an afterlife generally, do you know any Christian identifying folks who don't expect an afterlife (perhaps by reading all such references as allegory)?

Well Lennon is highlighting what's wrong with the world, and these are the common evils. No one should take them so seriously that they lose their perspective of what's right. It's a strong message of grounding. Something he excelled at.
I was a huge fan. The song is stuck inside me.

Then what do you think about this version?
