GC
What if some nutjob takes the words of this talk show host as a call to make an attempt on the President's life or that of his family? Would you then say this is how "God" reacts?
If they like what is happening, god is acting. If they don't, it's men and the devil, but just you wait, god will get to you.

First off, I don't like Sandy Rios for this exact reason. I do not think her tone or way of communicating demonstrate a gentle or compassionate approach. So while I disagree with how she said it, I do not disagree with the substance of her comments. Unrepentant sinners go to Hell. Advising people that they can avoid that fate is an act of love. Disparaging people who advocate and promote sins that draw people into Hell is necessary.

It seems to me, Chad, that those facts are very much open to debate.

But speaking out against what you believe is wrong is just part of the marketplace of ideas. As a general principle, I find it commendable that people who feel passionately about a cause advocate strongly for it, it the most civil way possible.
Here is an interesting question: Suppose I say sodomy is a sin and that since you advocate sodomy (not you personally), then you are leading people into damnation. What do you care, if you do not believe in sin in the first place?
Keep in mind, I have a libertarian attitude towards marriage. Marriage is a religious sacrament that should be neither endorsed, promoted or thwarted by the State.

Big difference between putting your ideas out there, and putting your ideas out there with a verbal 'godwillzit' modifier. I wouldn't take an eight year old's 'but my momma said' trump card seriously either. Either you have a valid point and can back it up, or you're just talking out your ass. (With god as a megaphone).

Chad, I don't recall saying that you (not you personally) should not be free to threaten "sinners" with the wrath of their bogeyman - the same as I am free to point out that I in fact see no bogeyman at at all.

What is the "gentle or compassionate approach" for communicating "my god hates you and is going to send you to hell"?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

How about you are so fucking scared that the world wouldn't turn by the rules satifying to your pathetically puny, obtuse, wish thinking little mind that you would embrace any scale of bullshit, commit any insult to reason, science, and good sense, in order to harrass, intimidate, entice or otherwise hurangue those whose mind would not be quite so small as yours?
