Congratulations.  I'm waiting to see what you become with your new free time.

Just got back from swimming (or more correctly, playing dodge the pensioner. Without my glasses or contacts I'm Mr Magoo's spiritual heir, I freely admit. But if I can still see them, what's their excuse?)

Anyway, I haven't been near a pool for something like ten years. I wanted to do an hour or so out of the two available for the public swim; managed about thirty minutes, did six full lengths out of the ten I'd set myself and then sat in the changing cubicle fully expecting to die. Fuck, I'm out of shape.

I know what you mean, Stim, whenever I go swimming after a long break I feel like a flat tire after five lengths

The tea party was a lots of fun. I really love the people in this group, of which 8 came. Two of them started singing - sparked by I forget what. Wonderful harmony. Oh, and following some tea and cookies (sorry, not enough of a anglophile to call them biscuits), I made two kinds of sandwiches and gazpacho. Here are the recipes.

Sandwich #1:

Dungeness crab meat salad made with the zest and juice of one Meyer's lemon, a little yogurt and chives; and a layer of thin sliced cucumbers; between buttered slices of sour dough bread, crusts removed and quartered.

Sandwich #2:

Three ultra thin slices of rye. In one layer avocado and thin radish slices. In the other layer bacon. Cut in half, crusts retained.

Gazpacho (you might want to try this, but scale it down unless you want to feed an army and still have left overs):

6 pounds of Roma (or whatever looks good) tomatoes, blendered;
1.5 cups of good quality, cold pressed olive oil;
0.5 cups red wine vinegar;
0.25 c aged balsamic vinegar;
3 jalapeno peppers, finely diced;
3 large yellow bell peppers, rubbed in olive oil and grilled, then chopped;
2 cucumbers, one blendered and one chopped;
3 ears of sweet white corn about half cooked, then cut from the cob;
1 medium/small jicama, cut into 'match sticks' but only about 2 cm long;
salt and pepper to taste

That sounds delicious - I'll definitely be giving some of that a try. I had gazpacho once, but it took so long to arrive it had gone warm.

(Truth value of above statement may go down as well as up.)

Ugh I hate being curly some days. Actually most days.
