What's everyone up to right now?

Got ass ended on my way to work this morning, and to make things that little extra bit special, the asshole pushed my into the car I had already avoided hitting. Amazingly, I seem to have gotten off lucky. No neck or back pain. Just a little stiffness that's already going away. Still, my ride is most likely totaled. 2004 Kia Sedona's aren't worth much according to Kelly Blue Book, even with less than 70k miles. At least it's driveable, unlike the car that hit me. His 2010 Nissan Altima was fucked up! Of course he hit me hard enough to push my two ton minivan into the person ahead of me even though I had my brakes on. My car wouldn't be so bad off if he hadn't hit me hard enough to lift my ass end, pushing me under the Acura ahead of me.

So, now I get to spend the next week or two fighting with Geico (his insurance, not mine, since he was at fault) about car values ('cause you know they're gonna low-ball me) in the hopes of getting it fixed or getting proper value out of it if they decide to write it off.

What a shitty way to get a half-day at work. Angry

Big hugs.

Hopefully Tuesday will be better.

That's a rough Monday.

I was going to complain about my long ass day. But I'd feel silly now.

I am going to be taking a CAD course in the near future;
I am entirely new to it.

If you are willing to share, I welcome any tips or advice.

Sorry, man.  Sad

If it makes you feel any better, I once rear-ended a cop.

And it was a cop who was already pulled over trying to help me.

Been reading about Justin Wilson's passing. so soon after Dan Wheldon died and the whole IndyCar chassis was revised for safety. Odd.

Fucking AutoDESK!

Sad  Maybe I'll have to play around with this today to find out just how loathsome 2016 is.  Then I'll just go back to using 2015 cause it's installed on my computer too.  Devil

I'm largely self-taught since my school didn't require students to learn a CAD program (!!!) so I started with an AutoCAD for Dummies book.  All the tips and tricks I've learned have come from googling and my coworkers.

My only real pro-tip is to figure out a work style that works best for you.  I prefer to use the keyboard commands but some of my coworkers do certain functions through the right-click menu, so just figure out what seems the most intuitive to you and gives you the quickest results.

If you're having specific questions you can PM me; I may or may not have the answer or a work-around.  My CAD work is architectural and my office uses AutoCAD LT so my program doesn't have full functionality, so there are some things I simply have no idea how to do and some things I will simply never need to do because of the type of work I do.

It's a little bit of a hyperbolic statement; a school project was what kicked things off, but the topic of that project was inspired by the X-Files.  Big Grin

I once had to use AutoCAD to do some basic stuff...
I was also at a time in life when I tried to use freeware.. so I set out to look for the perfect autoCAD replacement.
Sadly, none of the freeware CAD programs available had that oh so nifty and oh so useful command line... so I had to resort to a cracked version.
I wonder if, nowadays, there are actual decent freeware CAD programs?
Have you guys looked into that? or does your employer have a running license from AutoDesk so you just use that?

Fucking AutoDESK!

I just played around with Mtext and it's giving me the same Mtext menu as I had previously:

I tested multiple text heights and fonts and whatnot and it's working, so I'm calling this work around good.  Fuck the ribbon.

It's an industry standard thing.  We use AutoDesk products because everyone else uses AutoDesk products and it makes file-sharing easier and compatibility issues less of an issue.

I have it on good authority from the now-licensed architects in my office that the Architectural Registration Exams use the world's shittiest mock-CAD program during their tests.  Basically, in the limited time you have to take the exam, you have to learn a new program that's counter-intuitive to the program you use EVERY DAMN DAY and complete the design task you are given.  It's no wonder I'm procrastinating on my tests.  (Also, I can't afford them and I'm not motivated to study. Meh, whuyagonnado?)

On a downer at the moment. Same old shit.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
