What's everyone up to right now?

Cool

You say that like it's a joke, but I've met a few surgeons that I could almost believe that were the case. You can tell they're bad, when you're paying another surgeon to reverse the work of the first one like a month later.  Undecided

If someone is that incompetent, they need to be investigated.

We all make mistakes, but when I lost my last patient, we had an internal investigation.  The patient ended up having a stroke an hour before surgery (just to alleviate fears that I have lost patients).

Despite a rather infamous quote from Scrubs, all doctors don't end up killing patients.

Besides, while our normal winter time precipitation is white and fluffy, it usually doesn't stick around for long. March and April are actually our snowiest months. A big storm in December is unusual.

So, come in the summer. Especially early summer when the temps are mid 70s to low 80s and the mountains are still blanketed with snow.

I've actually been really surprised at just how pleasant the weather is in Colorado most of the year, in comparison to Australia. No really painfully hot days, no dryness... it's good.

As for me, it's coffee and waiting for some medical peeps to come 'round to set up home care with Luckie. They are officially four hours late now, so that's... good...

Shhhhhh! It's a frozen wasteland 6 months of every year and summer is unbearable!  Angel

It's the whole "Do we actually become fully unconscious and feel nothing under anesthetic or do we still sense some excruciating pain and just wake up afterwards with total amnesia and no memory of the pain we experienced during surgery?" thing that scares me Shock

There have been cases of patients becoming conscious during surgery but unable to move.  Fortunately, in the cases I've read about, they didn't feel the pain, just the pressure on wherever they required surgery.

I've always thought I'd make a bitchin' surgeon. If I were 18 again, I would totally go down that path. Listen, let me read a couple of books, figure out the plumbing, and take a crack at this Lost one.

The parts are all labeled just like the pictures in the biology book, right?!?

Numbered.  Colour coded and with warning labels like, "Do not cut!" and "This bit stays in".

@ Beccs Yeah waking up during can't be nice, but I was referring to patients who don't until after the operation is finished

I basically was referring to something Sam Harris has talked about, to paraphrase: "Do we not experience pain while unconscious under anesthetic or do we feel it fully even when unconscious and when we are awake we just have amnesia and forget all the pain we experienced under anesthetic?".

It's highly unlikely but a scary thought.

Maybe I phrased that better this time.
