You also get paid huge wads of cash whenever you pull out the right parts without killing the patient.

What is really convenient is that if you do roughly pull out the part, the patient buzzes loudly and his nose lights up.

It's the whole "Do we actually become fully unconscious and feel nothing under anesthetic or do we still sense some excruciating pain and just wake up afterwards with total amnesia and no memory of the pain we experienced during surgery?" thing that scares me

There have been cases of patients becoming conscious during surgery but unable to move.  Fortunately, in the cases I've read about, they didn't feel the pain, just the pressure on wherever they required surgery.

I woke up while I was having my wisdom teeth yanked out with dental pliers.

I had zero fucks to give.
