I was sitting in my car waiting for a scary looking homeless man to finish walking by. I wanted to go inside my home, but he was getting near, you see. I was mugged in this same alley a couple months ago. He reached my car and knocked on my window as if I had not seen him. I looked at him (that did it, I think) and waved at him to go away. I was scared. I mean, I've been mugged and that's a scary thing. I've been assaulted before that, too, and that was traumatic (not in this alley). He walked away miserably.

I couldn't do it. I looked in my purse and took out the only cash I had (which was only like three dollars). I opened my window and stuck my head out yelling for him to come back. My car on drive and ready to take off if he tried anything, my phone on my lap, and I handed him the money when he arrived. I closed the window again and watched him walk away from the mirror. He didn't walk far. He sat down at a taco stand and had breakfast.

I have no more money until Friday. I have something, though. I have the knowledge that I can't stop being a friend to other humans just because a few have hurt me. If my son was ever hungry and I wasn't there to feed him, I'd love for someone to be brave.

Ivy, you put a lump in my throat. I can imagine how, after your own experiences, it took a lot of courage to make yourself vulnerable in that way again.

One thing I've done for years is carry a cloth grocery bag in my car filled with useful things for homeless people. It includes such items as hand warmers, gloves, hat, a small blanket, some canned food, dog treats, writing materials, hygiene items, a little bit of money ($10.00), a jacket if I can find a suitable one. If someone is in need and approaches me as your fellow did you, I give it to them. Sometimes I give it to someone even if they haven't approached me. I've never regretted such an encounter, but I do understand your fears. Some of these folks are pretty rough looking. I've had several start to cry when I gave them my bag. They're just people in terrible need. I am glad you have not let your own awful experiences obscure your own appreciation of this fact.

My warm jacket has a bad zipper. It zips for about 5cm... that's 2 inches for you 'mericans... and then I can keep pulling the zipper, but the two sides don't join.... what can I do to fix this?
"Winter is coming" and I would prefer not having to buy another jacket...

I'd carefully take the current zipper out and sew a new one. I do it for my kids all the time.

I'd carefully take the current zipper out and sew a new one. I do it for my kids all the time.

My wife did that to her jacket last year... I think it's too much of a hassle for a 20€ jacket... still, I like that jacket... and it's warm and fluffy on the inside.
I'll try to crimp the slider like I saw on some site... hopefully, that's enough.
