So... took my husband to work. As we were leaving the house, one of my headlights on my car was out. Dropped him off. Went to Walmart to get a new headlight. Looked at the package, seemed like an easy install. Pick up a few more things. $133 later and I'm home. Pop the hood. Nope. Not happening. I need tools to take plastic covers off and to remove some other stuff in the way of the back of the headlight assembly. I TOLD my husband that I was going to need tools. "Nah", he said. "it pops in and out, easy." WRONG. You didn't take into account the crap that was in the way that HAS to be removed first.

So fine. He can deal with it when I pick him up this afternoon from work.

Normally, I like working on my own car. But this one is not quite 6 years old and everything under the hood is encased in plastic covers so that takes all the fun out of working on it. Oh well. I didn't feel like getting my hands dirty anyway. I have school tonight and have to work on notes and such.

When an engineer designs a car in this day and age the last thing they consider, if they consider it at all, is ease of replacing parts.

In my old cars I did most of the mechanical maintenance. I could pretty much strip an engine down and put it back together again. Then 2 years ago I got a new car.

I'm not sure I could even explain what the engine looks like. That's how often I lift the bonnet (Hood for our US friends). It's all too complex these days.

I totally agree Eclipse. I miss working on my old cars. I was taught early (age 14) that if I wanted to drive, I needed to learn at least basic maintenance and emergency repairs so I wasn't left stranded on the side of the road. Many people are surprised to know that I've replaced the head of a 1987 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Pics are in the member's photos thread somewhere.

My current vehicle disappoints me to a degree. While I've changed brakes myself as well as the oil, it is actually the first brand new car I've ever bought so I take it to the dealership for yearly inspections and emissions stickers (required in the state of Pennsylvania) and the occasional oil change when I'm not in the mood to do it myself. I've replaced tires twice on it now and I'm sort of pissed that it being our only vehicle, it has high mileage for only being 5 1/2 years old. It just turned it's 80,000th mile yesterday.

It's like the old story of a lad going at it, then opening his eyes afterwards to find a cup of tea on his bedside table.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Working on school notes now. 10 out of 22 pages updated. And that's just one curriculum. I still have notes from three other curriculum's to fix. I did manage to find a 4" binder that everything I've completed is now in. That was fun lol. I think I'm going to need another binder just as huge for senior level classes.
