My mother is freaking the fuck out because of a recent Facebook post.

I must be in a dark place because I posted about the Ark Encounter being a "monument to lunacy," and made a comment wondering whether you can tour the place where all the creepy incest happened.

She wants me to not talk about god on Facebook.

Well, I care about it because of the 18 million dollars in tax rebates, the 100 acres of land it got from an impoverished county for $1, and the TIFF district that takes 1-2% of the paychecks from workers near the ark site, most of whom don't actually work for the park.

In America, Christianity is so intertwined with government even though we have a Constitution and deified framers who were clear that should never happen. I live in a county that got sued for putting Bible verses on their police cruisers, and they fought it for a short time and lost, and my property taxes helped pay for the legal fees of the plaintiff.

I see this shit every damned day and I want it to stop. So I speak out.

You assume that's what I object to about the movie, which is not it at all.

• The entire movie is utterly predictable and not in an enjoyable way.
  
• Underwhelming bad guy (also, who was the bad guy? the old guy? the party prince? both?)
  
• Elsa's inexplicable mastery of a power she apparently never ever ever ever ever used after she almost killed her sister - but all of a sudden she's an ice architect with perfect mastery of her powers? WTF?
  
• Also, it is never explained why Elsa has magic in the first place, where she got it from, why it has to remain hidden from everyone or anything. Is magic a curse in that world? Are people found to have magic persecuted? Are there other magical people in that world? Where are they? Why couldn't we have gotten a wizened old magical person who lived in isolation and raised Moose-Guy and saved Elsa as a child instead of those rock-troll things?
  
• Oh, deus ex machina rock troll people. WTF? Why?
  
• Annoying as shit and useless sidekick (I want to punch that little snowfucker in the face but I'm still trying to murder those bitch-ass minion things)
  
• Overplayed main song which, IMO, isn't all that great either as a stand alone song or in serving the story (see below) and only serves to be a musical score to set Elsa's emo-home decorating scene to.
  
• But mostly I object to the intensely thin story, it's like graphene thin and there are so many times in that movie where I'm wondering why things happen that I just can't enjoy it. I've tried.

The strong female lead is actually one of the few things to which I don't object about the movie, but I'm not convinced that Elsa is the lead character in the movie: Anna seems to be, and the second Anna is let loose on the world the first thing she does is stumble into an engagement with a guy she just meets who turns out to be a major dickhead. And then spends the rest of the movie in an antagonistic partnership with a guy she ends up with that the end - but even that isn't a great message to give kids, though I will grant that at least the Anna/Moose-Guy relationship is based on something other than a single duet sung at a party.

I have watched Frozen multiple times, it's it's not like I saw it once, hated it, and am basing my opinion solely on that single viewing.  I watched, hated it, and watched it again to see if it improved for me and it didn't.


I have no problem with other people liking it, it's just definitely not a movie I would consider "good" by any stretch of the imagination. IMO, it is a seriously overrated movie that made a big splash because it was the first Disney animated musical in years. But just because that's the case, that doesn't automatically mean it's good.

People still watch TV?!

Nowadays, I just.... download the shows I want to watch. And watch them when I want, where I want (sorta).
Can't be arsed to remember to go to channel X and Y time of day Z... too much variability around me for that. (also kids hog the tv for their cartoons and crap)

I watched two shows "live" when they're on, three if I remember to watch Big Bang Theory.

Yeah she stepped in it, she has no control over my Facebook feed.

$591.00 later and my car has new tires and passed the state inspection. So I'm totally broke now but such is life when you are an adult and have to deal with adult things.
