I was listening to a podcast where the two gay hosts were talking about the gay bar/allies at Pride events issue.
I can see both sides of it. There are allies that are there to show support, and I think no one is upset about that. Then there are people there just to see the spectacle. That, it seems, is what people are upset about, and I see their point. It's the same thing as bachelorette parties that choose gay bars to go to. Gay people, in a night out having fun in a safe place, become props for them, and that's not cool.

There are those types, but San Diego is very much a military city, so that has a big effect on the culture here.

I do think, as a kind of un-written rule, if you're a straight person who wants to party on the gay scene, come with your gay/trans friends. Don't just turn up as a big group of straight people.
I wanna be reasonable with it because I hate the exclusivity mentality so many people are starting to develop. You also can't police it, what are you going to do? Anyone can just say "I'm gay" and come in and you can't block them for "not looking gay enough", that's fucked.
