What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Ouch. Sorry to hear that, whateverist. I'm glad everyone is okay.

I'm reconditioning the die cutters of a three hole punch I haven't used in a few years. The FAQ I'm reading is 40 pages long, so I thought I'd put it in a binder. Tried the punch and all three die locked up hard.

My front bumper looks like spaghetti, the chassis is wrapped around a front wheel, my front turn signal is dangling and my license is embedded in the hood. I'm fine. Both dogs are fine. The other guy's vehicle has a dimple on the corner of that front bumper smaller than a nickle. (If you weren't looking, you wouldn't see it.) Oh well, at least the other company has conceded their client's responsibility.

You know, it's strange the asymmetric damage that can happen in wrecks. I've been rear-ended in my '01 Mustang 3 times now, and none of the other vehicles drove away - I had nothing more than bumper damage (superficial one time), and my car isn't exactly built like a tank. Big Grin

Glad to hear everyone's OK.

The hot air mass has finally reached the metro area. Time for the aircon and lots of water!

I would not want your electric bill, that's for sure. Hopefully by "aircon" you mean "high efficiency heat pump". Big Grin

I pay a flat $8 a month for A/C, $96 per year. I've got it pretty nice. Now if only they'd fix the heat so I don't have to run it in the winter time.

No.

Solar powered reverse cycle air conditioning. Set at a very comfortable 23C. Wind is from the ENE with gusts ESE all statements to the effect that this air is coming in straight off the dessert areas.

We have a total fire ban so heat lamps are definitely a no no.

Ah, you have solar - nevermind. I live in one of the few areas of the US where solar isn't terribly viable (our electric rates are quite low and there simply isn't enough sun to justify the capital expense).

Heat lamps? I was speaking of a heat pump, a big ol' box that sits outside the house with a big ass fan in it that moves heat to or fro to heat or cool as needed. Installing one to suppliment my electric forced-air furnace (and replace my traditional A/C unit) knocked hundreds off my electric bill in summer and winter. Paid for itself in a little over two years.

I priced out a solar system but the return on investment just wasn't there. The house is all-electric (no gas service out in the sticks) and it wouldn't help enough in the winter when electric use is highest.
