What's everyone up to right now?

Yes, one of my cousins had a baby in the 60s, sans marriage.  I had already figured that out.  What I didn't know was the kid was a healthy girl and adopted by a couple I knew from town.

As for repercussions, probably best outcome for the kid, my cuz was pretty young, marriage to the guy wasn't an option, and the 'family' absolutely positively was not going to let her raise her daughter as a single mother period.  This was pre Roe v Wade too, so that wasn't going to come up either.  Kid definitely wasn't fathered by guy she eventually married, either.  And, yeah, he knows all about this.  And then my angle, my cuz is a pretty bad alcoholic.  She's never had much luck with rehab, so her husband's solution is constant supervision.  She leads her life under continuous intervention by family.  She works at her husbands business, they ride to and from work together, staff is aware of situation and under pain of apparently literal death, they cooperate with The Plan.

Now, is her status worse from what happened in the 60s?  Yeah probably,  but she married someone with the strength of will to make things work out the way they did.

I'm aware of non 12 Stepper 'authorized' recoveries, and this actually isn't the only 'continuous supervision' case I'm aware of.  Any port in a storm I guess.

The one big thing I don't know is if her subsequent kids know about their older 1/2 sister.  I'm assuming they don't, just since my life will be easier that way.

BTW, she's not abused beyond being denied access to alcohol 24/7/365, and there have been some memorable slips, usually family gatherings when she manages to snag a beverage she shouldn't.  I consider her hubby a saint, not sure I would put up with that kind of involvement to keep someone from drinking themselves to death, but the situation has persisted for decades, and who am I to squawk ?

Maybe being forced to give up her daughter drove her to alcoholism?

Although that one is pretty big, a lot of families have little "scandals" under wraps tbh. For all my grandparents tried to keep up the pretense of being good obedient Catholics, it suddenly dawned on my Dad on his 26th birthday that they'd only just had their 25th wedding anniversary. He was born in the 60s too actually.

Knowing family history (father and brother) her alcoholism was probably in the cards. Giving up a daughter certainly didn't help, but I wouldn't attribute it as a 'cause'.

Her husband is a gem, not too many men would have put up with what he has and still be with her. If not for him and his vigilance, she would have died of cirrhosis many years ago.

Her brother is 'famous' for being dumped by first wife for his unrepentant alcoholism and then he married into a family that is demonstrably worse in that regard, and now he is the 'responsible' adult of that tribe.

Everything is relative . . . . .

Reading an incident case on the Wikipedia admin's noticeboard.

Wikipedia is funny to me, even though I am, myself, a Wikipedian. There are so many errors, cases of vandalism, edit wars, etc., but the community seems big and organized, and that can be fun.

Here's an embarassing fact for you, I have this track on my gym playlist.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Listening to the Beiber-less Despacito and chatting on Slack/reading the forums.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
