Trying to get going so I can maybe attend SDSU volleyball vs. CSULB.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Got up early, roasted a bowl, had coffee, sorted the recycling, went to the redemption center to return them, picked up some stuff at Home Depot, had breakfast, did a small electrical job the the garage...
...and. I think that's it for the day.
Slacking off; should start the sketch for a watercolor but that involves getting up and assembling supplies and actually accomplishing something and that sounds like too much work, especially since I already did a color study that only turned out almost like a good painting in its own right.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
I'm not normally one for poetry... but I do really appreciate some poems, or poetic lyrics, from the heart... and I do really appreciate this:
It's not the wage you earn It's about the things you learn And the love that you feel It's not what you'll conceal It's all that you'll reveal that will make you be you The perfection of you Now the shadows are long and the cities are lost to rain And when you wake up every day to find nothing's changed But before you can speak you will learn that it's all the same And the dreams that you will have are public domain And the country lanes are decked with the time to come It's not the years you pass It's about the moments that last Forever in you Now the shadows are long and the cities are lost to rain And when you wake up every day to find nothing's changed But before you can speak you will learn that it's all the same And the dreams that you will have are public domain Now the time that is gone doesn't matter to anyone When the country lanes are decked with the time yet to come Well, the world is exhausted, the wreckage is all around But the arc of your life could still be profound Don't be afraid to die Don't be afraid to be alive Don't be afraid to die Don't be afraid to be alive Don't be afraid RE: What's everyone up to right now?

Got home from morning band practice (flute). Going to stick with the middle-level band for one more year to improve flute technique. Jazz band (alto sax) doesn't start up for another 2 weeks.
Realized on the drive home that it was the Giveaway Weekend -- instead of a garage sale, you just put out your unwanted housewares for people to grab. Hauled out a bunch of stuff and left it at curbside, and it's now mostly gone. Tried to take a nap. Wound up working on a piece of fan fiction instead. (It is very hard to write a death scene that doesn't suck, but I made some modest progress in that regard.) Final summertime band performance (clarinet) is this evening, but before then I have to run to the store for some groceries.
Just got done visiting my bro and neice.
Getting ready to go out for a belated birthday dinner. We're going to what is arguably either the #1 or #2 steakhouse in Portland and you only turn 50 once...
