Getting ready to go out for a belated birthday dinner. We're going to what is arguably either the #1 or #2 steakhouse in Portland and you only turn 50 once...

I missed my office summer picnic last year and won the raffle for a $75 gift card to Ringside. (Thinking of missing more office parties if this becomes a trend.)


It. Was. Amazing.

The gift card covered drinks and appetizers, there was another $75 bill at the end. Most expensive meal I've ever had but totally worth it.

Back from evening gig. One particularly entertaining bit of synchronicity: Our closing number (Eine Kleine Rockmusic) has excerpts from Beethoven's 9th and the 1812 overture (along with whatever else the arranger felt like stealing that day). About the same time, the fireworks display started up in the field next to us. Epic win.

I'm slowly dying of influenza.
Visiting my mum at the hospital I need to stop frequently from the car to the entrance just to catch my breath.
Some of the nurses recognise me from the great escape I made last year, an embarrassing story I have probably not told, but if I wish to leave at midnight, I fucking will.
I haven't had a smoke for three days, so something good has come out of it.
I'm fucking miserable though and trying very hard not to be angry at the world.

Ringside is where we went - the entire meal was amazingly perfect, there literally is nothing I could possibly complain about. Slightly less expensive than El Gaucho, which IMO is not as good.
