I have to ask- is a "telepost" a screw jack used to raise your floor girders? I realize that you are in cold country, and that foundations have to be dug deeply to avoid heaving from frozen soil. Is this a way to get around that deeply dug foundation? I'm not criticizing, I'm just curious.

Huh. The worst car accident I've been in, I think I had a leg that got bruised and hurt for about an hour. I was driving behind a car and didn't brake fast enough when it stopped. Car (a 15-year-old Saturn) was a total loss.
That brings back memories!
Dad rolled his old Tarzan flatbed truck with crap drum brakes once with my sister and I in it.
Dad got thrown out and amazingly survived.
Sister and I (about 10 yo) woke up in a strangers bed.
Apparently a lady dragged us out of the truck until the cops/ambos came

Just baked biscuits from Alton Brown's recipe.
Also, I'm watching Trust. It's a movie about a family torn apart after an online predator targets the oldest daughter. It's set in Wilmette, a good ten minutes from me, and one thing that's really strange: Clive Owen plays the father, and he doesn't bother to do an American accent. As a Chicagoan Anglophile, I don't know whether or not that's a good thing (because he's not faking an American accent and his natural RP-ified Brummie accent shine through) or a bad thing (because he's not even bothering to sound like he's from Chicago).
My being a big fan of The Knick is making this question all the more twisted: If he actually tried to do an American accent (especially since his accent there is a lot better than his other attempts), would it make me wonder what Thack was doing on the Modern-Day North Shore, especially given that he was last seen dying while trying to perform intestinal surgery on himself (and ultimately failing) sometime around 1901? Would I at least ask why he lost that trademark 'stache?

Yes, a telepost is a fairly low-tech version of a screw jack -- a couple of steel tubes plus a threaded riser plate that can be adjusted with a crescent wrench. They don't replace a proper foundation but are often used to support long spans, and are frequently used in retrofitting to shore things up.
I have an old house (100+ years old) that has experienced some sag over the years, and a few years ago had the basement main beam reinforced. Foundation guys poured a few new concrete slabs and added one more post, plus a short beam next to the basement stairs to straighten out a dip in the hallway above it. Same folks had also installed the back crawlspace beam about ten years earlier, to reinforce the middle of the back extension to the house.
The two short beams under the front porch were at the suggestion of a window installer I was dealing with a few years ago. The windows on the porch are ancient, and it was recommended that the porch be reinforced before installing new windows, because a lot of up-down motion would likely damage the windows. A couple of years ago, when I was replacing the old concrete steps with a deck-style landing, I added the two beam + post sets under the porch. (They definitely came in handy when I removed the rotten lumber on the end of the porch floor -- the joists stayed put, resting on top of the new beams, while I installed a new end plate.)

That said, I have had a few fender-benders. Including two this month (a total of four incidents in my career as a driver, including that incident I mentioned above). I am more than a little disturbed at this.

As long as we live to tell the tale, all is good!

Cleaning up dog vomit, chunky style. I think somebody got a little over heated today.

Spent an hour and a half slicing up 7 cartons of Hoods strawberries. I ate one while carton. Now I have a strawberry stomach ache.
Going to bed.
